Florence Rebecca Tipton Schultz, 95, of Dyersburg, died Sunday, December 6, 2015 at The Highlands of Dyersburg. Born May 29, 1920 in Dyersburg,TN, she was the daughter of the late Joe P. and Florence OBryan Tipton. She was a fourth generation Dyer Countian, descended from the Light, Tipton, Thomas and OBryan families, all of which played prominent roles in the development of Dyersburg and Dyer County in the 19th century. Florence was a 1938 graduate of Dyersburg High School, and a 1942 graduate of The University of Tennessee, where she served as president of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She received her post graduate degree in Library Science from George Peabody College in 1943, and later served as librarian at Dyersburg High School, and Central High School in Jackson, MS, where she met and married her husband, Marvin Bernard Schultz, Sr. on February 12, 1947. After marriage, she took a long sabbatical to assume her favorite vocation, being a dedicated mother rearing her seven children. She later served as librarian at Eliza Fox Elementary School in Vicksburg, MS, before returning home to Dyersburg in June 1969, where she served as the first head librarian at Dyersburg State Community College before retiring. Florence was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and a proud member of the Key Corner Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution as a direct descendant of Colonel John Tipton, who served in the Continental Army in Virginia, and was a signer of the State of Tennessees first constitution in 1796. She was a Century Farm owner, via the Light House Farm, which was acquired by her great grandfather, Joel A. Light, in 1852, and on which she resided from 1971 until her death. In 2014, Florence was named to the Dyersburg High School Hall of Honor. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at the Holy Angels Catholic Church conducted by Reverend Robert J. Stellini with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her 7 grandsons. The family will receive friends Monday, December 14th from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Curry Funeral Home. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Beverly S. Tipton (Jack) of Caruthersville, MO, Rebecca S. Crockarell (Charlie) of Jackson, Molly S. Culbreath of Murfreesboro; 4 sons, Marvin Schultz, Jr. (Meredith) of Dyersburg, Joel Schultz of Hickory Flat, MS, Carl Schultz (Amy) of Dyersburg, and George Schultz (Anne) of Nashville; 13 grandchildren, Katie Tipton Patel, Sarah Tipton Dickey, Michael Tipton, Brian Crockarell, Beth Crockarell, Jeffrey Culbreath, Elizabeth Culbreath Smith, Mary Catherine Culbreath McCord, Joseph Schultz, William Schultz, John Schultz, Lee Schultz, and Suzanne Schultz; and 7 great-grandchildren. Gwendolyn Walker Rooks passed away on December 5, 2015, in Jackson at Maplewood Rehabilitation Center at the age of 93. She was born on August 14, 1922, in Halls, TN, to Lottie and David Walker. She attended Blue Mountain College, and then went on to graduate from the University of Miami with a Bachelors Degree in Spanish. After graduation, Gwen returned to Halls to teach school in both the elementary and junior high setting. She then went on to work for the Department of Human Services and was the County Director there until her retirement in the mid 1980s. Gwen spent most of her adulthood selflessly caring for her disabled mother and helping her father, Dave, at the local family business. She married for the first time at the age of 64 and became Mrs. Charles Elkins Rooks in 1987. She was an active member of Halls First United Methodist Church and enjoyed time spent playing bridge with friends. Well in to her late eighties, she tirelessly made independent trips to Jackson to sit long weekends with her baby sister, Juanita Walker Steelman. Gwen lived all of her adulthood in Halls until 2012, when she was moved to Jackson to be cared for by her nephew and great niece. Visitation will be from 10:30AM until service time Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at the Halls First United Methodist Church with service to follow at 12:00 noon at the church. He was the fourth Tucker generation to live in West TN since the 1870s.

Mr. Tucker and Margaret Alene Ruth Dunn celebrated 71 years of marriage on August 24 of this year. She was the daughter of the late Odie McKinley Dunn and the late Mattie McCord Dunn of Cool Springs, TN. They were parents of Ewell D. Tucker, Jr. and Barbara Ann Tucker Reed.

Bobby Jean Jimerson Ayars, 84, of Ridgely, TN died Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Union City Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born January 14, 1931 to the late Orben Talmus Jimerson and Lona Mae Ellis. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ridgely, TN and a graduate of the former Ridgely High School. Mrs. Ayars was a stewardess with American Airlines, flying out of their Chicago, IL and Dallas-Fort Worth, TX crew bases. She and her sister Mary Lou Jimerson Harpole, both of Ridgely attended American Airlines Stewardess College in Chicago and graduated July 9, 1953 with 125 other classmates (the largest class ever to receive their wings at one time). She was an active member of the American Airlines KIWI organization. She later moved to Sunnyvale, CA where she became a homemaker and raised her four sons. After returning to Tennessee she earned a Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate and became a home health nurse. She is survived by her sons: Scott Ayars of Santa Rosa, CA; Christopher Ayars of Petaluma, CA; and Timothy Ayars and wife Allison of Templeton, CA. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Joshua Ayars of Ashland, OR; Amber Galdieri of Los Gatos, CA; and, Jenni Kasarjian of Atascandero, CA and six great-grandchildren. Bobby Jean also leaves to grieve her, her nephews, Dr. Joe Harpole, Jr. of Chester, VA and Dr. Steve Harpole of Union City, TN and their families, including her brother-in-law, Dr. Joe Harpole, Sr., of Union City, TN. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Rex Ayars and her sister Mary Lou Jimerson Harpole. She was a retired teacher with the Lake County Board of Education. She was a very active and former Sunday School Teacher at First Baptist Church in Tiptonville. Ms. Marilyn has a B.S. Degree from Tennessee Tech in Cookeville and has additional college hours from U.T. Martin, Memphis State and Tennessee State University. She was a member of the Tiptonville Women's League, a member of the Lake County Retired Teachers Association, and a member of the Lake County Education Association. She was also a member of the Tennessee Education Association and member of the National Education Association. Marilyn was Educator of The Year in 1994 and she also developed the Margaret Newton Little Indian Program in 1968, where almost 800 students took part in the program.

He served as Sgt. First Class in the U.S. Army, where he was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne and the 11th Airborne. Pug was an avid horseman, dog trainer, and quail hunter.

As a teenager, he worked with a crew that traveled with the wheat harvest in the Great Plains. While in high school in Dover, Arkansas, he drove a school bus and was a star basketball player. After graduating from high school, he drove a lumber truck for a short time. Then he found his passion in heavy construction mostly with concrete work. Near Whitney, Texas, he worked to build bridges to cross a lake that was being built. He helped build Gavins Point Dam on the Missouri River near Yankton, SD, where he met his wife while shopping at JC Penney for a birthday gift for his sister.

Most recently, she was actively enrolled at Helen R. Tucker Adult Developmental Center in Ripley, Tennessee. Cathy loved her family and friends and enjoyed being with people. She was a member of the Exceptional Department at Beverly Hills Baptist Church and Cherokee Baptist Church while living in Memphis, Tennessee. Currently, she was a member of the Specials Department at Gates Baptist Church. Cathy, a beloved daughter and sister, is preceded in death by her mother, Ouida Belton, and is survived by her father, Jackie Belton of Halls, TN; her sisters, Sondra Wright (Larry) of Memphis, TN, and Amy Winn (Mike) of Bryant, AR, her nieces and nephews, Will Wright (Megan), Emily Cavallo (Mike), Sarah Robinson (Jake), Amanda Ward (Daren), Allison Maxwell (Jake), Mark Winn and John Winn and a host of family and friends. Betty Tidwell Perkins, 83, of Dyersburg, passed away on Sunday at Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis.

She is survived by her sister, Artie Jones; her husband of 65 years, Bill; her sons, Phillip and Mark Perkins; and her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Tony Green, all who will greatly miss her and her picnics. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Ryan and Regan, of whom she was most proud and prayed for every day.
