She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Watson and husband Shane, of Dyersburg; her son, Stacey Moody (Michelle) of Finley; one brother, Rickey Barham (Kim) of Dyersburg; and three grandchildren, Ashton Watson and William Watson, both of Dyersburg and Levi Moody of Finley.

Barbara Recker Johnson, age 86, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, passed away peacefully in Mobile, Alabama on Friday, August 15, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Vincent Henry and Clover Branham Recker of Portageville, Missouri, where she was born and raised. Barbara or Bobby, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, graduated from Portageville High School in 1956. Her professional career began at Delta Airlines in Memphis, Tennessee, where she worked from 1957 to 1960. On December 29, 1958, she married James Richard Johnson of Caruthersville, Missouri. Together, they celebrated 57 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2016.

In 1972, the couple relocated to Dyersburg, Tennessee, where they raised three sons. Barbara earned her associate degree from Dyersburg Community College in 1978. By 1980, she had obtained her Real Estate Broker's license and established BR Johnson Realty, becoming Dyersburg first female broker and the first woman to open a real estate office in the community. She played a key role in founding the Board of Realtors in Dyersburg and became the first woman to serve on the Dyer County Planning Commission in 1982.

David was a storyteller at heart, fond of reminiscing about the old days and sharing tales with everyone he met. He was a beloved member of Our Little Country Church and was known for his warm and welcoming nature, never meeting a stranger.

He worked as a fabricator for the TGASK Co. He loved engineering, machinery and welding as well. He is remembered as a "Jack of All Trades", able to work on most anything that needed repair. He spent his free time listening to music and was a fan of golf, baseball and football, especially the Indianapolis Colts. He was a devoted father to his girls and loved any activity they did together.

Zach is survived by his wife, Rebecca Basham, his mother Beverly Basham, his sister Michelle Basham, his daughters Gracelyn Hallum, Ellison & Ezrah Basham, his aunt and uncle Carol & Chris Bolding an aunt Janice Carrol, his cousins Kristy Carrol-Grimes and husband Torrey, and and special cousin Brandon Grooms. Franklin is survived by his loving wife of 64 wonderful years, Julia Anne (Husk) Alley, whose companionship was a source of joy and strength throughout their shared life. Together, they raised three sons, DeNohal (Kelli) Alley of Oneida, TN, and Brad Alley of Ripley, TN and Colin Alley. Franklin also leaves behind his two sisters, Valencia Crook of Bartlett, TN, and Lydia Thurmond of Halls, TN, along with seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of immense pride and happiness in his life.

Bobby had a deep love for people and dogs, and he cherished watching Alex play 'Cooter' basketball and listening to Conner tell whoppers, especially after Conner received the 'Whopper Award' in kindergarten.

Mildred also attended Dyersburg State Community College and the University of Tennessee at Martin where she studied accounting. Mildred was a retired bookkeeper for Georgia Gulf and had also served as a secretary and substitute teacher at Lake County High School.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joe; and by a Japanese exchange student that is like a daughter to her, Mami Dean; and granddaughter, Mei Dean of Tokyo, Japan. She is also survived by one brother, Kenneth Johnson (Nancy); and three sisters, Gracie Mooneyham (Chuck) of Water Valley, MS, Linda Stout of Dyersburg, TN and Ruth Sawyers (Lewis) of Hixson, TN. Carolyn is also survived by 9 nephews and nieces; and one deceased nephew. Carolyn had a close relationship with Joe's brother and sisters and considered them as her family also.

Mrs. Darre Jean Hilbun, formerly of Memphis and Dyersburg, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Jean was born December 5, 1934 to the late Darrell and Delores Hudson. She spent decades working in bookkeeping and finance, lastly for the Swafford Fleet Leasing Company, refusing to retire into her 80's. She was a long-time member of Berclair Church of Christ in Memphis and involved in many community-focused activities in Shelby County. She loved tending her flower beds, shopping trips and was a fan of the Memphis Tigers. She will be lovingly remembered for her independent spirit.

Jean is survived by her daughter Darre Fisher and husband Richard of Milan, TN and step-son Larry Hilbun. She was loved as "Nana" by many who knew her including her grandchildren Brittney Autry and husband Chad, Kaylee McInerney and husband Bobby and Nichelle McAlister and husband Dylan Lawrence and her ten great-grandchildren; Lilly and Adelade Autry, Ryder, Louella and Maggie McInerney, Levi and Aiden McAlister and Knox, Emmie Jean and Sunnie June Lawrence. She is preceded in death by her husband, of 25 years, George Hilbun, her parents Darrell and Delores Lucas Hudson, her son Jerry Thomas Wyatt, a sister Hellen Celene Lowery and a great-granddaughter Layla Rose Autry.

He grew up in Pewaukee Wisconsin spending summers riding his bike around the lake. He inherited a love of magic and clowning from his father and a dry sense of humor and sharp wit from his mother. Greg had a wonderful childhood. He spent a lot of time with his Grandpa Joe whom he shared a room with when he was young. He performed magic and clown shows with his dad, and when he was old enough, he loved driving his mom around to different fabric stores. He inherited his deep faith from his family. He graduated from Saint Francis de Sales Seminary with the intent of becoming a priest, but life had other plans for him.

She had a gift for making people feel seen, always offering a helping hand, or just by letting you know she was there for you. Marvin proudly served in the United States Air Force. He had a career of more than 30 years in insurance sales, representing companies such as Independent Life and American General, among others. In his free time, he enjoyed networking and fellowship with groups of men over morning coffee at several local diners and cafes. He also was very knowledgable about computers and liked working on them for friends and neighbors.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Opal Richards, a daughter Mary Beth Roberson and husband, Jimmy, two brothers; Jimmy and Tommy Richards and was greatly loved as "Pop" by his grandson Brady Roberson. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Jerry and James Richards.

Born on September 18, 1949, in Henning, TN, he was the cherished son of the late Tom and Geraldine (Sanders) Smith. Charles lived a life characterized by hard work, love for family, and a deep connection to the land he cherished.

A devoted family man, Charles is preceded in death by his loving wife, Phyllis Lovelace Smith, who was his partner in life and love. He is also survived by his three daughters, Debbie Smith of Henning, TN, Missy Anthony of Henning, TN, and Amber Smith of Halls, TN, and his two sons, Billy Smith and Chad (Ashley) Smith, also from Henning. His legacy continues through his six grandchildren, who were a constant source of joy and pride in his life.

James Thomas (Jim) Goodwin, Sr., 86, of Huntsville, TX, formerly of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Cornerstone Hospital in Conroe, TX. Born in Dyersburg November 25, 1938, he is the son of the late Julian and Lela Athlyn Coughlan Goodwin. Jim proudly served his country in the United State Air Force. His military career spanned over three decades. He first enlisted in the Air Force in 1956 right after high school. He spent four years on active duty. While stationed in Alaska in the late 50’s, he was part of the first influenza vaccine trials. That experience which actual almost resulted in his death, as well as his contracting malaria as a child in Dyer County at the end of WWII, fueled his interest in Entomology and Epidemiology. He dedicated himself to understanding how insects spread disease to animals and people

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1964 from Memphis State University and a Master of Science in Entomology in 1965 and a PhD in Entomology in 1967 from the University of Tennessee. He later earned a Master of Science in Epidemiology from Texas A&M University in 1984.

His love for roller skating brought him joy and many great friendships. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and his big heart. Byron was a loving father, a devoted son and caring husband. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his stories, laughter, and love will forever echo in our hearts.

She cherished time spent with her grandsons William and Benjamin.

Cynthia is survived by her husband, Dempsy Greene, a daughter Emily Kolwyck and husband, Jonathan, a sister Elizabeth Binkley, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and was greatly loved as "NeNe" by her grandsons William and Benjamin Kolwyck.
