Delta Liles, 64, of Tiptonville, died October 1, 2009, at Jackson-Madison County Regional Hospital. Delta was born on February 16, 1945 in Tiptonville to Grady Allen and Pearl Bivens Ethridge. Delta lived her life in Lake County, where she worked, raised a son, and made friends. In recent years, she was a prolific artist and craftsperson producing framed paintings, ornamental crafts, and her unique cypress-knee Santa figures. She derived great joy and pride from her work and her home. Her lawn was often decorated for the season, as were those of others throughout the area with whom she shared her crafts. She was awarded scores of ribbons in area county fairs for her paintings. She also took great joy and pride in her family. She was a sensitive wife, a doting grandmother, a noble mother, and an obliging aunt. She was a member of the Tiptonville Church of Christ. The Liles family will receive visitors from 5 until 8 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2009, at the Tiptonville Church of Christ. Funeral services for Delta will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2009 at the Tiptonville Church of Christ, with Brother Don Reel officiating. Interment will follow in Lake Memorial Gardens. Grace was born Tuesday, June 6, 1922 at Lakemont, Georgia where she lived with her parents Dock and Lizzie Brock Gragg and her two sisters and eight brothers until she moved to Dyersburg in 1945. She was a member of Springhill Baptist Church at Nauvoo. In addition to love for her church and church family, Grace was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. She loved to spend time quilting and growing beautiful flowers. The Asbridge family will receive friends Friday evening, September 25th from five until eight o'clock at Curry Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held in the Curry Funeral Home Chapel Saturday, September 26, 2009 at one o'clock with Reverend James Branscum officiating. Interment will be in Neely's Chapel Cemetery at Nauvoo. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Spence, Mike Bohannon, Matt Bohannon, Adam Bohannon, and Roger McBride. She is survived by her daughter, Randie Bohannon and husband Mike; and, her son, Jimmy Asbridge, Jr. and wife Cheryl all of Dyersburg. She leaves four grandchildren: Robin Spence, Kristi Bohannon, Matt Bohannon, and Adam Bohannon; and, one great-grandchild: Ali Grace Spence all of Dyersburg. She is also survived by her sister, Maude Gosnell of Clarkesville, GA. Velma Alford Sanders of Dyersburg, died Monday, September 14, 2009, at Dyersburg Manor Nursing Center. Velma was born in Dyersburg, one of seven siblings born to Percy and Lucy Mustain Alford. She was a lifelong member of the Church of God with her most recent church home being the Cornerstone Church of God in Dyersburg. Velma, along with her father Percy Alford, her sister Louise Hamm, two of her brothers, Lester Alford and Lonnie Alford, her brother-in-law Adolphus "A" Hamm, and her sister-in-law, Katherine Alford were among some of the early employees of the old Dyersburg Cotton Products. Velma's employment with the "Cotton Mill" lasted over fifty years. The Sanders family will receive friends for visitation at Curry Funeral Home Tuesday night, September 15, 2009 from five until eight o'clock. Visitation will also be held Wednesday, September 16th from eleven until one o'clock at the Cornerstone Church of God on Lake Road, Dyersburg. Funeral services will follow at the church at one o'clock with Reverend Lynn Drumwright and Reverend B.L. Hart officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. James Alton Reasons, 91, died Thursday, September 3, 2009 at St Francis Hospital in Memphis, TN. James was born October 26, 1917, raised and farmed for 50 years in the Richwoods Community of Western Dyer County. He married Lila Bess Burton in 1937 and they were married for nearly 72 years. James and Lila lived at Maple Ridge Assisted Living Center in Dyersburg for the past 18 months. In addition to his life long career as a farmer, he devoted many years of service to the agricultural advancement as a Soil Conservation Service Director, a County Committeeman for the USDA Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS), and a Member of the Board of Directors of the Forked Deer Rural Electric Cooperative. He was a long-time member of the Richwoods Methodist Church and then the Finley United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife of 72 years, Lila, James is survived by his two sons and their wives - Kent and Elaine Reasons, of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania and Dick and Anne Reasons of Des Moines, Iowa, six grandchildren, and nine great grand children. James was preceded in death by his son, James Alton "Jimmy" Reasons, Jr. and is survived by daughter-in- law, Judy (Lee Reasons) Curry who lives in Raleigh, North Carolina. Son Kent M. and Elaine Reasons, are the parents of grandsons, Scott K. (Cindy) Reasons, Greensboro, North Carolina, Bryan M (Carrie) Reasons, Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, Todd A (Kerri) Reasons, Horseheads(Ithaca), New York, and Tyler L. (Renee) Reasons, Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania. Son Richard L(Dick) and Anne Reasons are the parents of granddaughter Laura Elizabeth Reasons (Daniel Schobel), Chicago, Illinois and grandson Stuart L (Jessica) Reasons, Nashville, Tennessee. Great grand children are: Devin and Meghan (Scott); Lucas and Shane (Bryan); Katie, Kevin, and Kolby (Todd) ; and Kyle and Kayla (Tyler). James is also survived by his 2 brothers Dolphus Reasons, Jr. and Gerald H. (Virginia) Reasons both of Dyersburg. James was preceded in death by his parents Dolphus and Edna Holt Reasons of Finley. Joe was born on Tuesday, June 20, 1939 in Dyersburg to James Stanley Gean and Alice Mary Lee Simmons Gean. He grew up in the Southtown area with his five brothers. The Gean family will receive friends for visitation at Curry Funeral Home Saturday, September 5, 2005 from five until eight p.m. Funeral services for Joe will be at four p.m. Sunday, September 6, 2009 in the chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Reverend John Morris. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Newbern. Serving as pallbearers for the Gean service will be Danny Gean, Ryan Gean, Scott Gean, Dalton Gean, Darrin Pegram, and Franklin Simmons. Grandson, Roper Gean will serve as an honorary pallbearer. He is survived by his daughter Angela Gean of Dyersburg; four brothers: Leon Gean of Dyersburg, Marvin Gean of Finley, Charlie Gean of Fowlkes, and Mark Gean of Dyersburg. He is also survived by two grandchildren: Danielle Moore and Roper Gean. He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Fultz Gean; his parents Alice Mary Lee Simmons Gean and James Stanley Gean; a daughter, Theresa Moore Grooms; a brother, Billy W. Edna Faye McCorkle, 69, of Halls, died Monday, August 31, 2009 at Dyersburg Manor Nursing Center where she was a resident. Edna was born one of nine children Monday, April 8, 1940 in Lenox, Tennessee to Gladys and Cletus "Snowball" Snow. She was a regular member of the congregation of the Lenox Church of God of Prophecy while living in Lenox. Not only did she love tending to her flower garden, her greatest joy was preparing a delicious home-cooked meal for her extended family. The McCorkle family will receive Edna's friends from five until eight o'clock, Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Curry Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted by Brother Bill Phipps in the chapel of the funeral home at 1:00 pm Thursday, September 3, 2009 with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Born in Dyersburg, TN, Sarah was a true southern belle, who had many friends of all ages. A devoted Christian, she and her late husband, Richard D. Cross, worked for many years with the young people of their beloved First Presbyterian Church, where they were always a constant support. Survivors include daughter Angela Woods and husband, Joe, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, granddaughter Holly Lindsey of Frisco, Texas, granddaughter Heather Rodgers of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas and great-grandchildren, Sarah Claire, Maxx, Annabelle and Ezra, and cousins Joe G. Riley and wife Connie, Dianne Homra and husband Skipper, all of Ridgely, TN, Tom Curry, Jr. of Memphis, TN and Kay Curry of Dyersburg, TN. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Douglas Cross and her parents William Everett and Jeffie Groves Hudson. In his life, Joe had many pursuits and adventures, to include serving in the Navy in World War II and later in the Army; a professional wrestling career, working with the Dyersburg Police Department and the Dyersburg Fire Department. He helped to start the Dyer County Volunteer Conservation Club and once even walked from Dyersburg to Chattanooga to bring attention to the Tennessee Conservation League. No one could train a coon dog or raise a garden better than Joe. He was always looking for a neighbor or friend who could use his help.
