Jefferson A. Branham, 77, of Dyersburg, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at his residence.

Coach Branham was an educator for over 40 years. He spent over 30 of those years at Dyersburg High School. During his tenure in education, he coached football, baseball, softball, and track. He taught Driver's Education, American History, and World Geography. He was not only involved with young people at Dyersburg High School, but also coached the city swim team, taught hunter's safety education and boating safety. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the "Order of the Arrow". He was a member of First United Pentecostal Church and also served as county commissioner.

Toy Dooley, 92, of Ridgely, died Monday, August 1, 2016 at his residence.

He was born March 16, 1924, the only child of Virgil Lavelle (Jack) and Cecil Blanche Gardner Dooley. His birthplace was in Lake County, Hathaway community. His early childhood years were spent in the area called Pecks Mill where he attended Pecks Mill School through the seventh grade. After graduating from high school in 1941, he attended David Lipscomb College and volunteered and enlisted in the Army Artillery December 8, 1942. On his 21st birthday, March 16, 1945, was spent in the heat of battle at the Remagen Bridgehead. He graduated from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University with a B.S. Degree in history and economics June, 1948. On December 23, 1948, he married June McMurry Brown, a native Nashvillian. They moved to Lake County, built a home, and began farming with his parents. In November, 1949, they had a daughter, Katherine Dooley. He served as deacon and elder of the Tiptonville Church of Christ. Toy taught Bible classes weekly beginning 1949. His command of the English language, his resonant voice and knowledge of the Bible, especially Old Testament history, was admired by many. His grandson, Jon, took over his farming interest beginning the fourth generation of farmers.

Dianne Guthrie Roberts, age 63, of Dyersburg passed away peacefully Monday morning, August 1, 2016 at her residence. She was a 1971 graduate of Dyersburg High School and a member of First United Methodist Church. Dianne began her healthcare career in 1972 at Parkview Hospital where she found her passion in life. Dianne continued her career at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center through the Radiology Oncology Associates and then through the Cancer Care Center. Dianne was known as a shining light for patients in the midst of a dark time by sometimes providing medication or medical supplies or financial support in an unofficial capacity that will always be remembered. Dianne lived her life to the fullest. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family making them smile and laugh through her stories about herself and other situations. Dianne was born February 24, 1953, to the late Warren Gordon “Goot” and Virginia June Sykes Guthrie. Survived by her husband of 29 years, Jerry Roberts; two step-sons, David Roberts and John Roberts both of Dyersburg; two sisters Brenda Williams and husband Steve, Debbie Guthrie all of Newbern; two step-grandchildren Emily Grace and Jacob Roberts; two nieces, Dawn George and husband Bradley of Decatur, Alabama, Laura Burroughs and husband Jeff of Newbern; one great niece, Lynnsey Park, and two great nephews Blake and Brayden Burroughs. Three sister in laws, Jane Gibson and husband Larry and family. Betty Carraway and husband Richard and family of Dyersburg; Sara McElroy of Newbern and family. Her brother in law, Jim Roberts of Bali, Indonesia. She is preceded in death by James P. “Pat” Roberts and Margaret “Ann” Roberts of Dyersburg.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2016 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Reverend Ed White with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Mrs. Gladys Armour Crain, age 92, of Halls passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Dyersburg Regional Hospital of Dyersburg, TN. Ms. Gladys, as she was affectionately known, was born April 1, 1924 in Edith, TN. She is the of daughter of the late C.N. and the late Mattie (Webb) Armour. Ms. Gladys was a 1942 graduate of Ripley High School. As well as being a land owner and farm manager, she also owned C.N. Armour Construction Co. along with Halls Insurance Agency. Ms. Gladys was a FFA Alumni and always had a love for agriculture and wanted nothing more than to see the vocational program succeed. Politics became an important part of her life. As a member of the Tennessee Democratic Party, she served as a delegate to the National Convention in New York for Jimmy Carter. Political activities included serving on the Vocational Education Board and University of Tennessee Development Committee. Ms. Gladys served 20 years on the Democratic Executive Committee, Tennessee Housing Commission and the Bicentennial Commission. She was appointed to the "Colonel Governor's Staff" by Governors; Browning, Clement, Ellington, McWherter, Blanton, and Bredesen. Ms. Gladys was an avid cook. From family dinners to class reunions, her home was always open and her stove usually on. She is survived by her husband, of almost 42 years, Mr. Bernice Edward Crain. She leaves one daughter, Rebecca Carson McWilliams of Halls, TN. She is also survived by three grandsons: Barry McWilliams, Monty McWilliams and Ricky McWilliams all of Halls. Ms. Gladys is survived by five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Amelia Crihfield, Geraldine Vaughn, and brothers: Bill Edd Crihfield and Joe Crihfield.
