Elizabeth Medora Henry

November 19, 1957 – August 05, 2018

Elizabeth Medora Henry, born November 19th 1957 in Memphis, passed away August 5th 2018 in Dyersburg, Tennessee. She was known to most as Beth and to her closest family she was “B.” Beth absolutely treasured her 59 years of living on Montclair in High Point Terrace in Memphis, Tennessee. She had recently moved to Ridgley, Tennessee to be closer to her brother. She absolutely treasured all of her new caregivers and friends at The Bridge. At the age of 21, Beth was left paralyzed after the vehicle she was traveling in was struck by a drunk driver on Poplar Avenue. She spent the remaining 40 years of her life confined to a wheelchair. Beth had such an amazing spirit and will to live a purpose filled life that her wheelchair never stopped her from much of anything and especially if it was happening in the 901. Her determination and patience led her to learn how to drive again, knit, cross-stitch, put her own make-up on, feed herself and so many other things that most do effortlessly. Her late mother, Elizabeth Crockett, and her father, Clarence (Bubba) Crockett were her primary caregivers and very instrumental in her vitality.

For over 15 years Beth worked on the Naval Base in Millington, TN. Beth had a passion to tell her story to inspire others to not drink and drive. Through the Baptist Health System, Beth volunteered her time to speak to teenagers at many local high schools across Memphis. Her philosophy was if she only saved one life by telling her story hundreds of times, that was enough. Beth volunteered at The Pink Palace Museum for over 20 years. Her heart led her and her mother to volunteer their time at the St. Jude Target House teaching parents and cancer patients to knit and the duo taught knitting in several churchs and businesses across the Memphis area. She loved spending time with her family, knitting, and attending as many concerts as she possibly could. She is preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Crockett and her brother, Randy Crockett. Beth is survived by her father, Clarence (Bubba) Crockett of Bon Secour, AL, brother, Neil Henry and sister in law, Kori Henry of Dyersburg, TN, brother David Crockett and sister in law Nicole Crockett of Foley, AL, nieces: Ashley Kirby, Lizzie Henry, Harley Tate Burkhead, Rachael Crockett, nephews: Alex Crockett, Josh Crockett, and great niece Alexis Crockett.
