Opal Dean Davis, 83, passed away suddenly Tuesday, December 3, after a short stay in the hospital. The last surviving child of Beatrice Ellis and George Wesley Leggett, Sr., she was finally called home to rest with her husband, the late Samuel Chandler "Bugg" Davis, and her seven siblings, Evelyna Clark, Leona Broadstreet, Wesley Leggett, Jr., Billy Leggett, Dorothy Holcomb, Alvis Leggett, and Roy Leggett. To say Ms. Dean was a busy little lady is an understatement! She was a member of New Vision Baptist Church in Halls, TN, the Curve Woodville FCE club, a volunteer at Lauderdale Community Hospital gift shop, visited the Helen Tucker Center and the Jim Causey Memorial Group Home twice a month for crafts and to share homemade baked goods with the residents, and was the long-time Treasurer of the Woodville Cemetery Association. She is survived by two sons, Samuel E. Davis (Lois), Russell L. Davis; one daughter, Emily Davis Griggs (Richard); four grandsons, William Davis (Whitney), Logan Davis (Ryan), Chandler Griggs, and Aiden Griggs; three granddaughters, Alyssa Davis, Madison Davis Crihfield (Corey), and Lindsey Griggs Racine (Stephen); and eight great-grandchildren, Willow Davis, Ronan Davis, Lyra Davis, Emrys Davis, Freyja Davis, Atticus Racine, Eva Racine, and Rhydian Crihfield. Services will be held on Friday, December 6, at 1:00p.m. at the New Vision Baptist Church in Halls, TN. The family will receive friends from 10:00a.m. until service time. Brother of three sisters: Katherine Meadows of Ripley, TN, Susan Newman Scearce of Clarksville, TN and Lisa Dunham of Gates, TN, and one brother: Clay Newman of Halls, TN. He also leaves 7 grandchildren Austin Riley, Jacob Riley, Cody Holley, Kassidy Riley Jonah Gould, Joseph Gould and Stephanie Ripley and 1 great-grandchild due in February 2020. McKay was preceded in death by his wife Sherri Salerno and a brother Todd Newman. He was a member of Maury City First Baptist Church. Don is in the Carroll County Hall of Fame and the UW Hall of Fame. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Wildlife Management at UW and his Master's Degree at LSU. Don worked for the TWRA for a few years and then with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife as a Biologist, where he worked for over 30 years, retiring from the Memphis Office in 2005. He loved his work and everyone who shared his love of wildlife and the outdoors.

Born January 8, 1924, she is the daughter of the late Thomas Elisha and Ethel Pierce Yarbro. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Sellers Sunday School Class and a retired insurance clerk at Dyersburg Fabrics. In 1942, she worked at the Dyersburg Army Air Base and many years at Rhea Wholesale. Her family was blessed to learn many valuable life lessons from her during her 95 years, among them: help others in any and every way you can and share your love of baking with them. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 2019 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home officiated by Reverend Dr. Mary Beth Bernheisel with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 16th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. She is survived by her brother, John T. Yarbro (Yvonne) of Dyersburg; step-daughter, Patricia Rickert Carroll (Mike) of Vero Beach, FL; her special niece, Linda Burnett (Alvin) of Newbern; and a host of nieces and nephews. Her nephews, Dent Yarbro, Jeff Holt, Roger White, David White, Tommy Tucker and Scott Tucker will serve as pallbearers.
