Jackie Foster, Sr., 76, of Dyersburg, died Sunday, January 26, 2020 at his residence. Born January 23, 1944, he is the son of the late James and Louise Boswell Foster.

Jackie was a follower of Jesus Christ who enjoyed spending time with his son, serving as coach when he played T-ball. He was a local musician who enjoyed playing and singing with several groups. He cooked with the Dyersburg State BBO team for several years in the 1990s and served as a judge of the “Memphis in May”. Jackie enjoyed camping with friends and four-wheel riding. The greatest joy of his life was spending time with his family and friends. He was employed for over 30 years by Heco Manufacturing. Mr. Foster proudly serviced his country in the Army National Guard.

He was a member of West Dyersburg Church of Christ and the Dyersburg Moose Lodge and was the former owner of Mr. D's Skating Rink.

He is survived by his nephews, Benny & Glenn Hopgood and his sister, Gale (Clifford) Hopgood, all of Dyersburg, as well as ten Great-Nieces & Nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert M. and Virginia Law Dowell and a nephew, Andy Hopgood.

Mr. Roy Meeks Cook, Jr., age 89, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020. Mr. Roy was born in Memphis, TN. to the late Roy Meeks Cook, Sr. and the late Garah (Morgan) Cook. He was the owner of Cook Implement Company, Inc., an authorized John Deere dealership with locations in Halls and Alamo, from 1959-1998. In addition to being a business owner and farmer, Mr. Roy was an avid pilot. He also served his community in many capacities during his life including: Lauderdale County Commissioner (1970-2006), Board of Directors for the Bank of Halls (1976-2016) and a member of the Parr Avenue Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Janice (Stephens) Cook. Mr. Roy also leaves a daughter, Betsy (Joel) Hoff Jordan, two sons; Roy Cook, III and Thomas Morgan Cook. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Lauren (Bobby) Vandermolen Jones and one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Jones. Mr. Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Cutchin Cook, and daughter, Rene Michelle Cook. Ms. Mattie Peay Brasfield, of Friendship, passed away Thursday Jan. 23, 2020 at the Bells Nursing Home. Mattie Peay was born June 13, 1933 to the late Finis and Eleanor Brasfield. She was a life-long member of Friendship Baptist Church and devoted her life to serving others in her community. She was a custodian for the Friendship Baptist and Methodist churches as well as the Crockett Telephone Co. and loved hosting meals for family gatherings, assembling puzzles and always had her camera ready to capture memories.

She is survived by her brother, Franklin and Linda Ann Brasfield and sister, Linda Sue and Buck Nash, all of Friendship. She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews and her many special caregivers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Finis and Eleanor Brasfield and her brother, Taylor Brasfield.

Bill Revell, 90, of Dyersburg, died Monday, January 13, 2020 at Harborview Dyersburg. Born January 5, 1930, he is the son of the late John and Violet Harness Revell. He was an active member of Gideons International, holding offices at the state and local level. He is a member of Dyersburg First United Methodist Church, a member of Sellers Sunday School Class and religious lay speaker state wide. Bill proudly served the City of Dyersburg as Mayor from 1980-2006. He remained very active after his 26 year tenure as mayor by serving as I-69 Coalition Vice President. In 1987, he earned the coveted Tennessee Municipal League “Mayor of the Year” Award and also served as past president. Bill was the longest full-time mayor in the history of the State of Tennessee. He is the past president of West Tennessee Mayors, former president of the West Tennessee Mayors and County Executives Association, Former Chairman of the Tennessee Local Governmental Planning Advisory Commission; a member of the Advisory board of the National League of Cities and was invited to be on the Advisory Board of the Great Lakes Trade Corridor. Before assuming the position of Mayor, he was a businessman and a General Motors dealer for 26 years. He graduated from the General Motors Institute and received his doctorate from Southern Bible Institute and Seminary in Augusta, GA. Mr. Revell served 8 years as chairman of the Tennessee Local Governmental Planning Advisory Commission and is past president of the Tennessee Municipal League and was a charter member of the Dyersburg Union Mission. He was owner of Sunshine Motors.

Mr. Revell, a Dyersburg High School alumnus, returned to DHS football after completing graduation from college and has been on the sidelines since then supporting his hometown team. He was a star football and track athlete during his days at DHS and was honored in 2014 for his 61 years of dedicated service to the DHS football program. He has carried the down marker and chains during Dyersburg High School home football games since 1953.

Billie Joyce was born on January 13, 1928, in Finley, TN, to the late Jessie C. Jackson and the late Margaret Lucile Carver Jackson. She was a graduate of Dyersburg High School in 1946. In 1948, Billie Joyce graduated from Ward Belmont Women's College. She would later attend Memphis State where she received her Masters Degree. She began teaching in 1948 at Richwood School. For years, Billie Joyce taught in many schools in Dyer County, including Nell Thomas, Dyersburg Elementary and Dyer County Central. In 1980, she retired from Dyer County Central School. Billie Joyce was a very active lifetime member of Finley United Methodist Church, where she was an adult Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Women's Guild. She was an avid antique collector, world traveler, story teller, poet, and bridge player. Billie Joyce had a full and wonderful life.

Her devotion to her family, friends and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace. Pat was a devoted and loving mother and was blessed with a large and loving family. H. Jerold Palmer, Jr. went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 27, 2019 with two of his children by his side at the home of his daughter in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Palmer was born in Dyersburg, Tennessee, on December 24, 1926 to Harry J. Palmer and Nellie Mae James Palmer. Mr. Palmer served his country in WWII in the Merchant Marines and served as a Southern Baptist pastor and missionary to Nigeria and the Republic of Niger.

A graveside memorial service honoring the life of H. Jerold Palmer, Jr. will be held at 12 noon, on Saturday, October 17, 2020, at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tennessee, officiated by Rev. Jeff Palmer. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery prior to the service.

He dedicated his life to coaching youth sports in Dyersburg for over 35 years. He spent nearly twenty years as an assistant coach for the Dyersburg High School Football and Softball teams and led the Trojans as Head Softball coach for ten years with the new on-campus field being dedicated in his honor. He also was well known as a life-long fan of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide.

Mr. Ernie Lucas "Skipper" Pierce, Jr. passed away Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg Hospital. He was born August 7, 1939 in Tiptonville, TN to the late Ernie and Maggie Michaelcheck Pierce. He was a 1957 graduate of Tiptonville High-School. Following high school, he served in the United States Army as a wrecker and recovery specialist in France and Germany. Following discharge from the army, he joined his father farming for many years in Lake County. He was a member of the American Legion and served on the board of directors and as President of the Lake Co. Farm Bureau. He was a long-time member of the Tiptonville First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley McBride Pierce, his sons, Ernie "Skipp" Pierce III (Teresa) and William David Pierce, his daughters, Susan Harned, Karen Hulme and Sharon Morehead (Andy) as well as being "Paw" to his nine grandchildren, Maggie Pierce, Deanna Moore, Ann Lillian Pierce, Eric Harned, Carrie Ruth Hulme, Collin Hulme, Meredith Callens, Jacob Callens and Montana Morehead and one great-grandchild, Bracey Moore and his sister, Elaine Landrum. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Maggie Michaelcheck Pierce, a brother, Jerry Pierce and a sister, Marie Herr.

Geneva Earlene (Eason) Lumley, of Lenox passed into eternal life on 22 December 2019 at her home after many years of battling health issues related to diabetes. She was born 21 August 1928 to Earl and Bessie Greenhall Eason of Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Earlene was a member of Lenox Baptist Church and the oldest person in Lenox. She lived with her daughter and son-in-law (Connie and Terry) who also were her care givers for the past eleven years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and caring for her extended family. She loved the children who entered her family tree and especially being a "Great Great" Grandma.

She was a member of First Assembly of God Church where she devoted many years teaching young children in Sunday School. Frances retired from Heckethorn Manufacturing Company. She was the oldest of nine children and all of her siblings called her “Sis”. “MeMa” was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her grandchildren and herself. Keeping her yard neat was also a favorite pastime.
