Ms. Catherine Jones Deweese, 76, of Tiptonville, TN, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at Saint Francis Hospital in Memphis. She was born August 3, 1949 to the late Jimmie and Frances Jones and was life-long resident of Lake County. After high school, Catherine played professional basketball for the "All American Redheads" team, traveling and playing across the country. She later worked in production as a welder for Heckethorn Manufacturing in Dyersburg. She was a devoted member of Tiptonville First Baptist Church, where she enjoyed bible study and is remembered for always having a sack of candy to share before services began. She never met a stranger and loved time spent on telephone calls with friends and family.

Catherine is survived by her son, Kevin Hassell and wife, Tabitha, of Obion, TN; her life-long friend and companion, Ms. Norma Reynolds; and was greatly loved as "Granny Catherine" by her eleven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Gary Millard Deweese.

Zibbie was faithfully married for 20 years to Jerry L. Carroll until his untimely death in 1981. They had one son, Jerry L. Carroll, II in 1964, who was the gleam in their eyes. She and her son were the first mother/son combination to graduate together at Dyersburg State Community College. Affectionately known as “Aunt Leona” to her niece and nephews, Zibbie had a wide smile and an infectious laugh that made her a joy to be around. She was able to find humor in almost any situation. Of her working life, she was proudest of her 20 years in the copy room at the Dyersburg State Gazette. She loved to spend vacations traveling with her son across the country. Zibbie was a member of the West Dyersburg church of Christ and often attended services at Miston Baptist Church.

He also cherished the adventures that travel brought, creating memories with the people he loved most. He was a member of the International Association of Firefighters and a long-term active member of Finley Baptist Church.

He loved time spent fishing, local trips with friends riding motorcycles and vacations with family, especially a recent trip to Hawaii. He was a devoted member of Finley United Pentecostal Church.

Jackie is survived by his wife, of 38 years, Kathy Curtis, his daughters; Sherry Carpenter and Crystal Estrada, his step-son; Phillip Griffin and was greatly loved by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as "PaPaw." He is preceded in death by his parents, his step-son Kenneth Griffin, his brothers; Ernest "Pedro" Curtis and Billy Ray Curtis and his sisters Virginia Faye Haley and Gail Ashley.

In four years, he played five seasons in the minors and rose from D-ball to AA performing mainly as a relief pitcher best known for his slider pitch. Due to an arm injury in 1961, his major league career ended before his rookie debut opportunity with the St. Louis Cardinals organization but the disciplines he acquired through baseball forever influenced his strategic decision-making skill in life.

Luther ”Luke” Young, Jr., 76, of Finley, died Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Reelfoot Manor. Born August 29, 1949, he was preceded in death by his parents Luther, Sr. and Norman Dorothy Gibson Young. He proudly served his country in the Army during the Vietnam era.

He is survived by his son, Michael Young of Las Vegas, NV; his brother, William Young of Finley, two sisters, Doris Timmer of The Villages, FL, Sandra Sanchez of Lenox; and two grandchildren, Colton Young and Aurianna Young.

Barbara’s nurturing spirit extended to her five grandchildren — Joshua Fowlkes, Elizabeth Fowlkes, Emma Ramirez (Caleb), Evan Schiffner, and Annalise Schaffner — each of whom was deeply cherished and loved.

Throughout her life, Reba was a dedicated worker. In their early years, she and her husband traveled far and wide as migrant farm laborers, harvesting fruits, vegetables and other produce. She truly loved those years, seeing new places, meeting new people and enjoying life simpler pleasures. Later they settled in Dyersburg, where the worked at Sylvania Manufacturing, Kroger and Ryan's Steakhouse. She always was a devoted homemaker. Growing, cooking, canning and sharing the fruit of her labor with family and friends always brought her joy. She was very active in the ministries of the Junction Church of God where she taught Sunday School for a time. Family activities meant much to her, whether it was a trip to the mountains every year or going to her grandchildren's ballgames or other events.

Reba is survived by her daughter, Nina Robertson; and was greatly loved as "Nanny" by her grandchildren; Shannon Hill, Phillip Crawford, Heather Rodgers, Jennifer Rose, Loretta Ubal, Josh Robertson; her 16 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.

His passion for mathematics was well-known among his friends and family. Marshall will be remembered for his family-oriented nature and his contributions to both his community and his family.
