William D. Hilliard, 98, of Dyersburg, TN, died Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at his residence. Born November 26, 1925 in Dyersburg, TN, he was the son of the late Dave and Mollie Garrison Hilliard. Mr. Hilliard was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II and a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 21, 2024 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home with Rusty Hilliard, Jr. and Carl Mills officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Rusty Hilliard, David Hilliard, Will Hilliard, Jerry Etheridge, George Hollingsworth, Clint Veal will serve as pallbearers and Tommy Reed and Kris Pickard will serve as honorary pallbearers. He is survived by his son Rusty Hilliard and wife Cindy of Dyersburg; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Launa Faye Hilliard; his daughter Janie Christian; his sisters, Ola Hawks, Betty Manley, and Ella Hungerford; and his brothers, Leonard Hilliard and Russell Hilliard. She was born in Linden, TN to the late Grover & Gertha Beasley on April 17, 1938. She worked for many years in the laboratories of the AT&T Co. She was also a devoted homemaker, enjoying working in her yard and garden, canning and sharing whatever she grew. She truly enjoyed and loved the simplest things in life.

She is survived by her husband, Freddie Edward Pollock, her son, Ed Pollock & wife, Lisa, her brother James Ray Beasley & wife, Jean, sister-in-law, Debbie Beasley, sister, Martha Gladys Beasley. She was truly loved as "Mammy or Maw" by her four grandchildren, Amanda & Rudü Doorco, Jeremy & Miranda Pollock, Michael & Colletta Pollock and Matt & Valentina Pollock as well as her ten great-grandchildren, Mason, Maddox, Kevin, Regan, Marley, Kahlia, Kirie, Ina, Selah and Mona. Mrs Rhonda Foster Whitt, of Pleasantview, TN, formerly of Dyersburg, passed away Friday March 15, 2024 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. She was born October 5, 1963 to the late Kenneth & Shirley Foster. Rhonda was a student, throughout her life, always looking to learn how to help others through education. She worked as a GED instructor for the Tennessee Department of Corrections as well as the TBI. She truly loved to help people pave their way, transitioning from incarceration to civilian work. She also was a devoted care-giver, always providing and caring for her family members.

She is survived by her husband, of 42 years, Joey Lynn Whitt, her daughter, Jessica Ann Hudson & husband, Daniel Marquest Brown, Sr. and a brother, Joseph Kyle Foster. She loved her time as "Rho-Rho" to her grandchildren, Ava Ry'Ann Harris, Ahsha Raylynn Harris, Daniel Marquest (DJ) Brown, Jr. and Michael Whitt Brown. Jerry Richards

January 25, 1938 – March 14, 2024

Jerry Cecil Richards, 86, passed away Thursday March 14, 2024, in Jackson, TN surrounded by family. Jerry spent the last few years taking care of his wife of nearly 65 years, as she succumbed to the effects of Dementia, all while dealing with the effects of his own heart issues.

Jerry was born in Dyersburg, TN on January 25, 1938, to his parents, Leroy and Louise Richards. He married his high school sweetheart, Ila Ruth (Cook) Richards of Dyersburg, TN, and would have celebrated their 65th anniversary a few weeks before her passing in 2023. Jerry served two years in the National Guard while in High School, and after graduating from Dyersburg High School, he served four years in the United States Air Force, specializing in Communications and was stationed in Kansas and Alaska. After his Honorable Discharge from the service, he pursued a career in Communications and Engineering with South Central Bell and eventually retired from BellSouth Telecommunications. He had a very successful post-retirement career as a Real Estate Agent, and founded Richards Footwear in Jackson, TN. Jerry served many years as a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Jackson, TN. He was also very involved in politics and served as an Alderman for the City of Dyersburg, TN. Jerry particularly loved playing golf and baseball and assisted teams for several years at Union University. He was an avid reader and wrote several books. He loved to travel and spend time with his family. He always put his family first to ensure they were provided for.

He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and a member of Kiwanis International. He was an avid fan of Mississippi State football and the St. Louis Cardinals. Kens favorite pastimes were playing golf, listening to music, and spending precious time with his family.

Pastor David Bradley Gray went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. David was born on Wednesday, April 24, 1957 in Santa Monica, California to the late Billy Earl Gray and Alice Ann Pigue Gray. He faithfully served as Pastor of Abundant Life Fellowship Church in Ridgely, Tennessee since 1985. David attended Rhema Bible Training College in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He served as Tennessee Director for Rhema Bible Training College beginning in 2006 until 2015 when he became a Midsouth Regional Director for Tennessee and Kentucky. Pastor David spent his life bringing people to the Lord and nurturing their relationship with Him. In the Book of John, Jesus said to Peter "[if you love me] feed my sheep." Two things are certain: David loved the Lord with all of his heart, and he was faithful to feed the sheep of Abundant Life Fellowship Church well by teaching them faith in the Word of God.

Ms. Shirley Ann Tucker Holmes, of Dyersburg, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, February 23, 2024. She was born June 17, 1932 in Urbana, AR to the late Shirley & Sally Tucker. Her main calling in life was as a homemaker and caregiver, raising her seven children and later working in a daycare where her grandchildren attended along with countless other children. She was an avid reader and for many years she loved to gift ceramic items, that she made, to family and friends. She worked part-time in real-estate and at one point, with her best friend selling fire alarms. Her grandchildren were her life in later years, never saying "no" where they were concerned. Family vacations to the beach were some of her favorite times away.

She is survived by her son, John Holmes & wife, Toni, her daughters, Kathy Boals Yarbro, Mary Patterson & husband, Tim, Missy Ivy & husband, Tim and a daughter-in-law, Jamie Holmes. She was loved as "Grandma" by her 12 grandchildren: Jennifer Boals Cozort, Patrick Boals, Andrew Holmes, Mark Holmes, Katie McFadden, Spencer Boals, Cammy Farkas, T.J. He and his wife, Virginia, were members of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Dyersburg. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, especially at Reelfoot Lake and was an avid collector of art, antiques and coins. In his later years, he loved to travel internationally, exploring new cultures, places and experiences.

Joann Merrill Baird Lewis, 91, died Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at her residence. Joann was born in Dyersburg on October 2, 1932, to Merrill Miller and Dr. J. Paul Baird. She started dating her husband, Ken, when she was 15 and married when she was 21 after she attended Universities of Alabama, Florida, and Vanderbilt. After Ken graduated Vanderbilt with a B.S. in December 1952, they married February 8, 1953, and Ken started Southern College of Optometry in Memphis in March of 1953.

Joann was a lifelong member of Dyersburg First United Methodist Church where she an MYF leader for years. She was a member of Acts 29 Sunday School and United Methodist Women where she served as President, several times. She worked with the Cub Scouts, Brownie Scouts, Meals on Wheels and worked with Headstart when it first began. Joann helped organize day care center for working Moms among many other activities. Her works at her church and community, many done quietly behind the scenes, are numerous. She was a member of "The Sewing Circle", where they all made wonderful memories eating, entertaining, traveling, and caring for each other and their families.
