Marguerite Grace "Peggy" Norman

June 13, 1919 – January 04, 2013

Marguerite Grace "Peggy" Norman of Memphis, formerly of Dyersburg was born January 13, 1919 in Hastings, Nebraska and died January 4, 2013 in Memphis, TN at age 93. Known to friends as Peggy, young Marguerite moved with her parents and older sister Paula from Nebraska to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her deep love of the southwestern landscape never left her, and one of her life-long passions was the plight of Native Americans. She worked as a secretary for a movie theater in Albuquerque in the 1940s. In 1950 she met, and a few weeks later in her parents' back yard, married her husband of 60 years, Joe Robert Norman, an Air Force engineer originally from Dyersburg. Her life as a military wife granted her the opportunity to live and travel in post-WWII Europe, an experience that she cherished. Her only child, Mary, was born in Germany in 1956 and 2 years later the family moved back to the U.S., stationed on USAF bases in California, Washington State and North Dakota. She made friends from all over the world, shared her beautiful singing voice in the Officer's Wives' Chorus, arranged flowers, and enjoyed every sort of club activity available to the wives, and especially loved the Mah Jongg club. The family moved to Dyersburg upon Joe's retirement in 1969. Peggy had many hobbies, and she excelled at needlework, quilting and sewing; making many of her own beautiful dresses and suits. She was an excellent teacher in passing these interests and skills down to her daughter. Peggy enjoyed her garden and had a huge heart for all living things. She doted on her beloved cat, Buddy, the last of many over her lifetime. Peggy Norman is survived by her daughter, Mary Norman-Jungklas, and one grandchild, Robert Lyons Jungklas III, who made her eyes shine. Funeral service will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 10, 2013 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home with Reverend Joseph Wallace-Williams of Grace St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Memphis conducting the services. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Dyersburg, TN. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm, Thursday at the funeral home.
