She was a retired employee for HIS Manufacturing and a member of Wynnburg Baptist Church. She was a graduate from Newbern Vocational School and was an accomplished seamstress.

He was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, where he served in the Korean War and received the Purple Heart Medal. He was a graduate of University of Missouri, avid fisherman and golfer and loved working in the yard.

He was a member of the Rotary Club, member of Freed Hardeman University Advisory Board and a member of Midsouth Farm Equipment Association Board of Directors.

For 66 years he was husband to Sue VanCanneyt who preceded him in death; loving father of Hal VanCanneyt of Collierville, TN, Donna VanCanneyt of Bartlett, TN. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Williams. He is survived by seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and extended family and many friends who loved him and will miss him. He was a proud veteran of World War II and served his country for over twenty years. He retired as a Master Sergeant from the U.S. Army on August 1, 1961. He once shared with his children that he never expected to come back from serving in the Philippines, and every day since has just been a gift. That is the way he lived his life, grateful to God for every precious moment with loving family and friends. Funeral Service will be held at the Halls Funeral Home at 1pm. on Saturday May 4th. 2013.
