June Fearnside Lannom, 92, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, died on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at her home in Dyersburg, surrounded by her family. She was born in Palatka, Florida, to Mr. and Mrs. Henry M. Fearnside on June 18, 1921, and was graduated from Putnam County High School in 1939. She attended the Florida State College For Women in Tallahassee and Stetson University in Deland, Florida, before working as a secretary with the General Services Administration in Washington D.C. during World War II. After the war, she returned to Palatka where she managed her family's florist shop with her mother. In 1948, she met Edward H. Lannom, Jr., who was employed as a civil engineer by the Merritt Chapman and Scott Construction Company, which was then engaged in the construction of a pulp mill plant in Palatka. They were married at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Palatka on December 6, 1949. In 1951, they moved to Dyersburg where Mr. Lannom joined his uncle, Vern Forcum, in the family construction company which became Forcum Lannom, Inc. Active her entire life, until very recently, Mrs. Lannom was a lover of the arts who was skilled as a painter and flower arranger. She loved music and was particularly fond of opera, the classics and Broadway musicals. She was also an avid golfer and an early member of the Dyersburg Ladies Golf Association. A member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church for sixty years, she was a member of the Altar Guild and the Church Women's Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, Hilt Montgomery Lannom, her mother, father, sister and brother. Mrs. Lannom is survived by her two sons, Edward H. Lannom, III of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and John M. Lannom of Dyersburg, and four grandchildren, Edward H. Lannom, IV, Revel Elizabeth Lannom, Sarah Case Lannom and Katharine Clive Lannom. Visitation with Mrs. Lannom's family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p. m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Dyersburg. Her funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at St. Mary's Church conducted by Reverend Gary Meade followed by burial at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg. Pall Bearers will be Bob Dean, Eddie Davis, Richard Donner, David Buchannon, Bob Newbill and Tony Dement. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to any of Matthew 25:40, the Dyersburg Union Mission, the Dyer County Humane Association, the Red Cross and the United Way. He was the pastor for First Baptist Church in Dyersburg for 28 years. He was a recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International and was Chaplin for Dyersburg Police Department and Dyersburg Fire Department. He was a graduate and was Alumni of the Year of Union University, President of Tennessee Baptist Executive Board, Vice President of Tennessee Baptist Convention and President of New Orleans Theology Seminary Alumni Association. He was a member of Southern Baptist Convention Credentials Committee and a member of Alpha Tau Omega. He served as Pastor at First Baptist Church in Grand Junction, Wynnburg Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in Dresden, Humboldt, Dyersburg, Covington and Tiptonville. He was an outstanding Baptist Minister in the State of Tennessee. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Carol Jordan Crumpler, 88, of Dyersburg, died Sunday July 14, 2013 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was a loving mother of two and grandmother of three. She was a housewife, avid golfer, and fierce bridge player who always wanted to win. She loved to help with community and church work. Working in the yard was a tremendous joy to her because it allowed her to enjoy nature's own beauty, especially the birds. She was a sports enthusiast, finding golf, basketball, football, and baseball very exciting. She helped family members develop their playing skills and love of sports by tossing every kind of ball for them to catch and throw back to her. Her God, her family and her friends were the three most important things of her life. She will be sorely missed by her many bridge club friends. Graveside services for Mrs. Crumpler will be held at 11:00 A.M.,Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Fairview Cemetery, Dyersburg, TN with Dr. David Russell officiating. Murray G. Kemp, 93, of Dyersburg, died Sunday, July 07, 2013 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center. He was retired with the City of Dyersburg and a member of Parr Avenue Church of Christ and a WWII Veteran. He grew up in Millsfield. When he was 20, he and a buddy joined the National Guard on Sept. 11, 1940. They left five days later for Fort Jackson, S.C., where they received their training and spent the next three years training new soldiers. His platoon was mobilized in 1940 and sent overseas in 1944 to St. Albans, England, where they stayed for several months until being moved to Southampton, England. They stayed there for five days and went to Normandy on June 14, 1944, eight days after D-Day, June 6, 1944. Back in France, on Feb. 17, 1945, Kemp received a battlefield commission. Over a month later, on March 25, 1945, they crossed the Rhine River into Germany. Soon after, Kemp caught a 20-millimeter bullet in the left side. He was taken to a field hospital for an operation and then on to Paris, where he was made a first lieutenant before being flown to Augusta, Ga., where he stayed in the hospital for the next 18 months, when he retired on Nov. 17, 1946. He went on a 60-day leave before officially retiring on Jan. 17, 1947. He then returned to Dyersburg. For his duty and contributions to his country, Kemp received a combat-infantry badge, the oak leaf cluster Purple Heart, a European Theater ribbon, a good-conduct badge and the Silver Star. Funeral services for Mr. Kemp will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, July 10, 2013 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home with Mr. Parks Thurmon and Mr. Scott Owen officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Murray Kemp, Tony Willis, Stacy Pruitt, David Walker, Benny Sipes and Sam Hummer. Edna Ludene Stoneburner, 70, of Dyersburg, died Saturday, June 29, 2013 at her residence. She was a retired school crossing guard for the Dyersburg Police Department. Funeral services for Mrs. Stoneburner will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Hickman officiating. Interment will follow in Dyer County Memorial Gardens. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
