Jerry W. Little, age 69, of Ripley, TN passed away on March 21, 2018 at the Lauderdale County Community Hospital. Graveside services are set for 4 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Mary's Chapel Cemetery near Ripley,TN. A celebration of life reception will follow in the activities building of the First United Methodist Church of Ripley at 5:00 p.m. Jerry was born in Madison County, TN, son of the late Mildred (Mem) Mills Brasher and step-son of the late John B. Brasher, both of Bemis, TN and the grandson of the late P.D. and Mary Bethel Maddox Mills, Sr. of Bemis, TN. Jerry was a 1966 graduate of South Side High School in Jackson TN and graduated from Jackson State Community College in 1968. He earned his Bachelors of Education degree from Union University in 1970, where he was also a chosen member of The Rutledge Honorary History Club. He then earned his Master's in School Counseling and Guidance from Memphis State University in 1975. Jerry spent over thirty years of his life serving as an educator. Whether in the classroom, as an administrator, or as a school director, his dedication to shaping the career paths of his students left a lasting impression that will remain a part of his legacy. After retirement, he started a second career as a probation officer, serving Lauderdale and Crockett counties and the city of Milan, TN. where he also served on the Board of the Drug Court. His desire to council and educate was evident in his new job by supporting individuals and guiding them to programs needed for recovery. As an active community member and sports enthusiast in Ripley and Lauderdale County, Jerry coached baseball and peewee football in the early 1970's, coached summer league T-Ball and softball in the 1980's-90's, and was an on-air announcer for Ripley High School football and baseball games for W.T.R.B radio station. He was also an integral part of bringing the youth soccer program to Ripley in the 90's where he served as a coach and referee. Jerry was also actively involved in Dixie Youth Softball, serving as Head Umpire for many years and spending countless hours behind home plate and on the first base sideline. Other community activities included being a member and past President of the Ripley Rotary Club, being a former Mason, and participating in the yearly Relay for Life events. Jerry was an active member of Ripley First United Methodist Church. He served and led many committees throughout the years. He was a member of Methodist Men, the Sunday school teacher for the Men's Comeback Class, and a volunteer for the "Lunch With Us" program. In 2001, Jerry became a member of the West Tennessee Emmaus Community where he served on several walks. Each time he went on a walk, he came back with a renewed spirit, wanting to serve his church and community with a greater passion. He always encouraged others to attend the Emmaus walk, because it was one of the greatest journeys of his life. Jerry is survived by his wife and best friend of 45 years, Louanne (Rains) Little, his daughter, Erin Rinay (Little) Tims, and his son-in-law, Josh Tims both of Gates, TN. He also leaves his beloved dogs, Maggie and Lily, and his grand-dogs, Barley and Flash. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Little, Sr. of Bemis, TN and Johnny Walker of Henning, TN, by his mother-in-law, Virginia (Mrs. JT) Rains of Memphis, and by his constant companions Licorice, Dixie, and Morgan. Jerry leaves three sisters-in-law, Dotty Little of Bemis, TN, Kathy Walker of Henning, TN, and Leigh (Rains) Stone of Bartlett, TN as well as two brothers-in-law, Mike Johnson of Fayetteville, TN and Scott Stone of Bartlett, TN. Ron remained a hard worker up unto the day of his stroke on January 30th. He was always the first with a joke and loved making people laugh and never met a stranger.

Loyd was a retired traffic agent for Georgia Gulf Corporation and also worked for Reelfoot Packing Company for 12 years. He was a member of Wynnburg Baptist Church and served as a deacon, trustee and the church treasurer. Loyd was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving his country during the Korean War.

Dolores D. McDivitt

April 20, 1937 – March 08, 2018

In Memory and Honor of Martha Dolores McDivitt “I will carry you with me until I see you again” On Thursday, March 8, the McDivitt family bid farewell to its steadfast matriarch, Martha Dolores Dodo McDivitt, better known to us as Granny. Born on April 20, 1937 in the small town of Garland, TN, Granny was the youngest daughter of Walter Marshall and Laura Mae Dunn. The backbone of our family, Granny was our ever-glowing impenetrable beacon of light. Her presence and gentle hand in each of our lives will never be forgotten, as she makes her journey to the sky, ready to once again fish the White River waters of Heaven with our beloved Jimmy Pop McDivitt and Mitchell Keith. The sheer heart and spirit of Granny was immeasurable by all counts. She never met a stranger in her life and always found the good in every person or situation. Her smiles were broad and her laughs were infectious; with just one hug she could make anyone feel like they were right at home. Now, in her absence, we hold onto those memories of her with clenched fists. There will never be another like her. She made each member of our family feel special in their own unique way. It is impossible to reminisce about Granny and not think of Pop Granny and Pop were married in 1955, but the couple had already, at that point, spent most of their lives together, with Pop growing up just miles away in the rural town of Pilljerk. For many years, the McDivitt and Dunn children walked with one another to the schoolhouse. They were all great friends, and from that friendship forged an even stronger family. By all definitions, Pop was the love of Grannys life and her greatest adventure. In the years following his passing in 2016, Granny found both strength and solace in moments spent with her remaining family. She missed Pop with all her heart, but now she wont have to miss him anymore. Throughout nearly 61 years of marriage, the couple raised 4 children, Vicky Lynn, Richard Darrell, Mitchell Keith and John Thomas. They prided themselves on being good parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. In truth, it is hard for me to believe there could ever be a better grandmother. She blanketed her family in love and kindness; her compassion and warmth knew no end. The most accomplished cook and baker in the McDivitts Dyersburg clan, Grannys mind was like an endless rolodex; a wealth of knowledge cataloging decades of family recipes that would eventually be handed down to her daughter, daughters-in law and granddaughters. She knew all our favorite treats and meals and loved spending time learning new recipes. There was nothing in the world quite as satisfying as walking into Grannys kitchen on Christmas morning to the smell of sausage, eggs, hash browns and chocolate meringue pie. Standing there in her apron, she would be ready to greet you, one arm opened wide for a hug, the other waving a dish towel or a spatula. Until her retirement in the mid-late 1990s, Granny had been a textile worker by day and a homemaker by night, spending nearly a quarter century under the employ of Dyersburg Fabrics, home to her self-proclaimed second family. Coming home after a long day at work, it was nothing out of the ordinary for Granny to spend the remainder of her evening making dresses, skirts and shirt tops to surprise her grandchildren with. For as many Sunday mornings as we can remember, Granny and Pop attended fellowship at First Baptist Church in downtown Dyersburg. Granny was always highly involved with her church family and dedicated many years toward helping in the nursery and singing in the choir. A twice over survivor of cancer, Granny was more than sweet face or kind word, she was also a warrior; a true testament to a woman who had seen the edge of life and fought against the odds to remain with her family for just a while longer. For the McDivitt family, 126 Tucker St. will forever be synonymous with Granny and Pop. We will never forget the years spent there on the front porch playing cars, the Easter egg hunts in the backyard, or watching Pop chase off squirrels in the yard, while Granny picked pecans. Their home will always be a special place for us; in our minds and in our hearts, we will always find them there. On Friday, March 16, from 5-7, family and friends are asked to gather in celebration of the life of Granny. The memorial will be held at Curry Funeral Home, located at 1984 St. John Ave. Granny was the proud mother of Vicky McDivitt, Richard McDivitt, John McDivitt (Lynn) and the late Mitchell Keith McDivitt (Donna). She leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Jessi Agee (Jared), Justin Townsend (Natalie), Brian Keller McDivitt, Addie Bleed (Tim), Anneladyem McDivitt and Rachel Townsend (Josh). Granny was the proud great-grandmother of Parker Townsend, Nikki Curtis, Emma Kate Bleed, George Bleed, River Townsend and Jim Avett Agee, who is now still just a bun in the oven. She leaves behind one brother, Gene Franklin Dunn, and is preceded in death by brothers Marshall Dunn, Thomas (Ted) Earl Dunn, and Warner Hugh Dunn. Granny was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Minnie Bradshaw, Gladlys (T-Bird) Mae Fleming and Willi Northcutt. Granny leaves behind a large extended family of in-laws, as well as lifelong friends, all of whom she loved dearly. Opal Inez Thompson Taylor, of Dyersburg, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at the age of 87, at Milan General Hospital. She was born in Middleton, Tennessee, on January 13, 1931. Mrs. Taylor was a compassionate caregiver, a retired employee of Heco Manufacturing, and a member of Fort Hudson Baptist Church. Survivors include her son James Taylor and his wife Christie of Dyersburg; two grandsons, Justin Taylor (Catherine) and John Taylor (Amanda) of Dyersburg; four great- grandchildren, Jenna Taylor, Jake Taylor, Jase Taylor, and Matthew Taylor; and two sisters, Molly Henson and Mamie Conrad, both of Ripley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Andrew Taylor; a son, JC "Tiny" Taylor; her parents, JT and Mattie Thompson; three brothers, Jimmy Thompson, Floyd Thompson, and Eldon Thompson; as well as a sister, Betty Hooten. The family will receive visitors from 5pm-8pm on Thursday, March 8, at Halls Funeral Home. He was born on July 20, 1935, in Bogota, TN, to the late Malcolm Odelle Cutler and the late Willie Lorene Blackley Bottoms. Gary was a retired Associate Professor of Business and taught Business Cources for Dyersburg State Community College, where he worked for 20 years. Mr. Gary was also a member and elder of West Dyersburg Church of Christ. After 20 years of serving his country, he retired as a Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, he was a technical writer and electronics instructor.

Tina was a retired hair dresser and an active volunteer with the Salvation Army. She and her husband, Chad enjoyed taking vacations to multiple places over the 26 years they were marred. She made frequent trips to Louisville, Kentucky to visit her daughter and son-in-law. She loved taking her granddaughters to McDonalds on Sunday mornings for pancakes and playing. She enjoyed baking with her oldest granddaughter, Marley and loved playing pretend with her youngest granddaughter, Laney. She also would travel to her home town in up-state New York to visit her family. She enjoyed spending time at Cossayuna Lake, New York in the summers with her best friends, Valarie, Dorothy, Ruthie and John. She enjoyed entertaining her group of friends, The Posse, at her home, loved their monthly cooking classes and their many girls trips.
