Hale Sr for over 41 years. Helen is survived by a son, Dr. John W. Hale Jr. and wife Jane. She also leaves two grandchildren, Chelsea Hale and John W. Hale III. Helen is also survived by a sister in law, Frances Paige of Bells, TN, as well as, several nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by three sisters; Virginia Walpole, Shirley Bullington, Ann Ross and four brothers; James Paige, Leon Paige, W. C. Paige and Lewis Paige. She was a member of the Eureka United Methodist Church (Forked Deer). She was an active member of the U. M. W., FRIENDS OF THE HALLS PUBLIC LIBRARY, HALLS VETERAN MUSEUM and also an associated member of the Halls First United Methodist Church. Helen was a graduate of Halls High School where she retired as a bookkeeper and secretary after 39 and a half years of service. She will be truly missed by her family, friends, students and faculty. Mr. Smith was a Master of Ceremonies at the Grand Old Opry where he was awarded D.J. of the Year in 1960. He was a former car salesman and worked at Dyersburg City Cab.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2018 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home officiated by Reverend Dennis Knowles with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Paul Eugene Jacobs, 86, passed away in Dyersburg, Tennessee on October 5 after a brief illness. He was born and raised in Paris, Illinois, the youngest of five children. A talented athlete, he excelled in basketball and baseball for the Paris High School “Tigers,” later playing semi-professional baseball before enlisting in the U.S Army and serving honorably in the Korean War. After returning from the War, he completed a bachelors degree in chemistry at Indiana State University that launched a long and successful career in the plastics industry in Illinois and Tennessee. His interests included family genealogy, travel, and military history, especially of the Civil War. Paul was preceded in death by his wife Barbara. He is survived by two step-children, Patrick Sullivan of Seattle, Washington and Brigid Webb of St. Charles, Illinois, and three grand-children as well as numerous nephews and nieces and dear friends. He will be interred at a private ceremony in the family plot at Vermillion, Illinois.
