Mr. Hall began his career as a City Prosecutor before working as a Shelby County Public Defender for almost 30 years before his retirement.

Celebration of Life service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2020 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Charles Price “Charlie” Whitnel, 61, of Dyersburg, died Sunday, July 12, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born August 21, 1958, he is the son of the late Jane Shipman and Robert C. Whitnel, III. Charlie was a member of Dyersburg First United Methodist Church. He was a man of many talents including farming and construction. Charlie was a fun-loving man who never met a stranger and left the people that he was around with a smile. He was kind to all who knew him and a volunteer to all in need. His laughter was infectious and will be carried in the hearts of those who were blessed to hear it.

Celebration of Life service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2020 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Dr. Mary Beth Bernheisel. Robert D. Pruitt, 80, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, July 9, 2020, at West Tennessee Health Care Dyersburg. Born May 1, 1940, he was the son of the late John David and Willie B. Horner Pruitt. Mr. Pruitt worked at Dyersburg Fabrics for over 30 years and was an advocate for any child in need. He volunteered at The Childrens Home in Paragould, Arkansas, New Pathway for Children in Melber, Kentucky and was such a wonderful friend to the children of St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital and was an integral part of the lifesaving work happening in Memphis every day. He was also a member of West Dyersburg Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be Sunday July 12, 2020 at 2:00 PM, in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home officiated by Jim Chamblee, Glenn Burse, and Micah Brinkley.

She was a member of Sylvester Church of Christ in Sylvester, GA and was a former member of Parr Avenue Church of Christ. Martha was an avid member of the Dyersburg High School Band Boosters and a member of of the Red Hat Society, along with many of her closest friends. She was retired from retail sales and loved travelling, arts and crafts.

Joe Marshall Moody, M.D. went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 3, 2020. He passed away peacefully at home, in College Station, Brazos County, Texas, with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born at home in Dyersburg, Dyer County, Tennessee, on August 3, 1924, to Dr. Alexander Harris Moody and Mary “Madie” Madison Tipton Moody. As the youngest child, he grew up with one sister and three brothers, and attended local Dyersburg schools. By profession of faith, in the Lord Jesus Christ, he was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Dyersburg at age eleven on May 12, 1935. After graduating high school in 1942, he attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville for pre-med and after 3 years, entered medical school at The University of Tennessee at Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee. He married his high school sweetheart, Nan Vaughn, on September 23, 1945. After graduating medical school in 1947, he was an intern at Wayne County General Hospital in Eloise, Michigan. In July 1949, he practiced general medicine for two years with his brother in Dyersburg, Tennessee.

On September 1, 1951, he joined the US Army Medical Corps as a 1ST Lieutenant. He was stationed at Fort Gordon, Augusta, Georgia, and was sent to Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. Soon after, he was deployed to Korea, where he served as a Medical Officer General during the Korean War. He returned to the United States with an honorable discharge in August 1953. He received the Combat Medical Badge, the Bronze Star Metal, and other military awards.

John Russell Jowers, 36, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville after a lengthy illness.

He was born on July 5, 1983, to Sylvia and James Jowers. John attended Dyersburg City Schools, where his parents were teachers. He excelled in academics and sports and was active in First Baptist Church. At Dyersburg High School, he was an honor student and lettered in soccer, football, and wrestling. Soccer became his life - as a player and a coach. In high school he earned "All-State" designation in soccer and broke school kicking records in football. He later coached both boys' and girls' varsity soccer at Dyer County High School and Dyersburg High School, taking the Dyersburg Men's Team to state three years. John loved his players, and they loved him for his patience and teaching skills. John also bonded with his fellow coaches.

She loved her flowers, took pride in her yard and was a skilled seamstress, who made beautiful clothing for her grandchildren. Kathleen was a homemaker and dedicated her life to her husband and her three sons.

Effie Lou Bolding Binkley of Bruceville passed away June 26, 2020 at Harborview Nursing Home. She was born January 13, 1929 in Bonicord, TN to James H. Bolding and Minnie Ball Bolding. She is pre-deceased by her parents, her husband of 52 years Colman L. Binkley, her sister Wylodean Bolding Redmond and two children Terry Jay Binkley and Carol Ann Davidson and a grandson Derek Binkley. She is survived by a son Loyd Binkley and a daughter Kathy George of Dyersburg as well as 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She graduated from Dyersburg High School in 1946 and taught at Fowlkes Elementary for several years. She helped her husband farm and in her later years was an employee of J&W Drug Store and Methodist Hospital of Dyersburg as a pharmacy technician. She is a past member of Beech Grove Baptist Church and an inactive member of West Side Baptist Church in Halls TN. She is remembered as hard working since she was the daughter of a farmer and the wife of a farmer. She spent many hours in the fields and was a master of cooking, canning and sewing. She loved flowers and was often teased that she could just throw flowers out in the yard and they would grow. She cooked many Sunday chicken dinner for the preachers of our church! Her family was blessed by her limitless generosity. At the nursing home, she was often seen by the staff helping other residents find their way to the dinning room or pushing them if they were in a wheelchair. She loved to read novels and particularly scripture and religious books although she also loved history. All arrangements are private.

Ruby was born on May 16, 1932, in Bolivar, TN, to the late Bill and Myrtle Duncan Lowe. She was a retired seamstress for Henry I. Siegal. Ruby was a member of First Baptist Church Tiptonville, where she was a very active in all church activities.

She married at a young age and subsequently relocated to Buchanan, Michigan where she spent the rest of her years. She worked locally as a Pawating Hospital dietitian, a switchboard phone operator, and was a Lineman's Assistant in Puerto Rico. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, crocheting, selling at local flea markets, and occasional bingo. Her favorite activity of all was spending time with family and friends. Martha is survived by 4 grandchildren, Stacey (Boeve) Cook, Todd Boeve, Troy Vaughn, and Beverly (Seratt) Burton); eight great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen J Crunk, her daughter; Patsy Wizner; her son, James Seratt; a grandson, James Seratt, and all of her siblings. She was a member of Finley Baptist Church and was the owner of Country Folks Cleaning Co for many years. She will always be remembered for her love of caring for others. She was active in many community fundraisers for the Finley Fire Dept. and other charities and a church camp volunteer. She enjoyed cooking huge meals for family and friends, camping and most of all, conversation.

She is survived by her husband, Eddie Brown, her children, Cliff Pruitt, Angela Matlock, Josh Brown, Darren Brown and Cathy Brown Pittman, her sisters, Debra Junior & Tammy Hurt. She was "Nana or Neena" to her five grandchildren, many beloved great-grandchildren and cherished nieces & nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, R.C. & Rebecca Lineberry, her brothers, Roger, Dwight & Rocky Lineberry and her sister, Sharon Carroll. She and Eddie also opened their home to host two exchange students from Poland.
