She was preceded in death by three sisters, Alice Seratt Waddel, Betty Seratt Thurmand, and Lousie Moore Watson, four brothers, Jerry Thomas Seratt, Donald Eugene Moore, Steven Long, and William Bill Coffey. Annie also leaves behind six grandchildren and her step-mother Patty Moore of Coal City, IL. There are no services to be announced.

She was a devout member of Cottonwood Baptist Church, where she enjoyed going to church and spending time with her church family. Virginia lived life to the absolute fullest and enjoyed shopping.

Thomas R. Moss, Jr., 91, of Memphis, formerly of Dyersburg, died Sunday, May 14, 2023 at his Memphis home surrounded by his loving family. He was retired after 30 years in marketing and sales with W.R. Grace & Company. It was at W.R. Grace where he met his beautiful future wife. Tom and Ginny were married in 1962 and raised 3 children as he continued his career and then with Terra Nitrogen in Tulsa, OK. Tom was the epitome of a true southern gentleman. He was charming and welcoming and had such a sweet spirit. He enjoyed many things. his dogs, fishing, jazz music, Tennessee Volunteers, but most of all the love his family. He will be remembered as a loving father, husband, friend, dog-whisperer Pippa and faithful follower of Christ. He had a passion for working with Jr High and High Schoolers and had the privilege of teaching Sunday School at Second Presbyterian and First Evan and was deeply loved by his classes. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. Mr. Moss proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean war and graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1959. Born March 14, 1932 in Dyersburg, he is the son of the late Thomas R., Sr. and Elise Doyle Moss. A private graveside burial was held for Mr. Moss on May 18, 2023, at the Dyersburg City Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held in Memphis, Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 62 years, Virginia Moss; two daughters, Amy May (John), Jenna Moss, both of Memphis; one son, Tommy Moss of Memphis; and four grandchildren, Olivia, Julianna, Ryan & Jack. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carroll Wheeler. She was born May 20 th , 1923, to the late Francis and James Sims. She was married to Junior Fowler from 1942-1973, they lived in Memphis where she was raising her children for several years. They then moved to Lake County where she worked at H.I.S. until retiring. She was a faithful member of Cottonwood Baptist Church and enjoyed any time that she would get together at church with family and friends. She enjoyed to cook, sew, and do crafts in her spare time. In 1975, Lorene married Mr. LB Maddox, who made her life complete. Her children had a stepfather like no other. Together they always had a large garden. Life was good in her marriage to LB, until his death in 2010.

She is the daughter of the late William Johnson (WJ) Young and Margaret Marbury Young. She is the granddaughter of the late John Wilkes and Cornelia Johnson Young. She is also the granddaughter of the late Robert Woodson Marbury and Eddie Lou Carter. Gynger leaves behind her son, David (Trish) Corlew and a daughter, GyNeal Corlew Buckner. She leaves behind her granddaughter, Logan Mariah Buckner and three grandsons, Chase Alexander, Gage Addison, and Blake Ashton Corlew. Gynger also leaves two sisters, Ellen Durham of Hernando, MS and Betty Young of Friendship, TN. Plus many loved nieces and nephews. Gynger was employed at Harden Office Equipment in Dyersburg, TN until the time of her disability. Through all of her hardships in life, she always braved them while keeping a smile on her face. She was a devoted Christian and always relied on God to take care of her needs. She was a devoted member of Southfork Baptist Church at Chesnut Bluff for many years. She married the love of her life, Larry Gene Winters on January 28, 1966 and have been married for 57 years. Joy worked as a State Gazette paper carrier for 33 years. Joy enjoyed going to church at Our Little Country Church and the Junction Church of God, riding side by sides with her husband, spending time camping in Chic, family get togethers and watching her favorite tv show, Gunsmoke. Even on her worst days, her great grandson Rafe could make her smile. In her last days she quoted this scripture daily; "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain" Philippians 1:21. She has gained her new body and is worshipping at the feet of Jesus.

He will be remembered as a follower of Christ, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, Tennessean, fighter pilot, outdoorsman, mentor, practical joker, golfer, businessman, and lifelong member of First Baptist Church Dyersburg.

He was born January 5, 1933 in his grandparents' house on his family farm in Newbern, Tennessee. He grew up on his family land with his doting parents, surrounded by his beloved extended family, and his earliest years of life fostered a deep love and affection for his native Dyer County. He attended Dyersburg High School, where he played football all four years and served as Vice President of the Class of 1950. John was proud to be the founding member and President of the Dyersburg High School Key Club. He attended the University of Tennessee for one year, where he pledged and joined Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. His lifelong dream was realized in 1951 when he received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy, where he earned a degree in engineering and military science in 1955.

He was born on May 25, 1939, in Dyersburg, TN, to the late Raymond Lincoln Burse and Martha May Dudley Burse. Bonnie worked for Good-Year in the instrument lab for over 28 years. His family referred to him as a dare devil and adrenalin junkie because he would do things some people would never think about. He especially enjoyed hang gliding, skydiving and cave exploring. Bonnie never worried about the dangers of the things he did, he just wanted to have fun and live life to the fullest. He could also build and fix just about anything from model planes to boats. Bonnie loved to be outdoors hunting and fishing and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He also loved giving back to the younger generations through volunteering as a boy scout leader for many years. Bonnie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

Doris Scott Stafford, 85, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, April 27, 2023 at her residence. Born May 9, 1937 in Dyersburg, she is the daughter of the late Dennis Edward and Ada Mae Devasier Scott. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and special friend to all who knew her.

She graduated from Dyer County High School and went on to graduate from The University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. A few years later, she received her Masters Degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin. Upon graduation, she began her teaching career with the Dyersburg City School System. She taught sixth grade math for thirty-one and a half years to hundreds of students. After she retired from teaching full time, she continued to work part time tutoring. She touched many lives along the way. Teaching was her passion and her students were always close to her heart. Everywhere Ms. Stafford went in Dyersburg, she was greeted by former students of all ages who would hug her and express their appreciation of her.

Evelyn Webb Chandler, 90, of Halls, passed away Monday, April 24th, 2023 in Murfreesboro with her son Ken Webb of Dyersburg and daughter Carolyn Callender of Murfreesboro by her side. Evelyn was born the oldest of four children to Oscar and Neva Brewer on September 5th, 1932. In her younger years she learned a strong work ethic helping her parents in the cotton fields. She married the love of her life Kenneth Webb in 1949. Ken and Evelyn loved their church and singing praises to their savior. They raised 3 children and had 8 grandchildren before Ken's passing in 1995. Evelyn married her second husband, Max Chandler, in 1998, and they continued to lead a life full of sharing the good news of Jesus, working hard at the barber shop, and pouring into their community. She barbered in Halls at Ken's Barber Shop for about 40 years and was a faithful member of Tucker Street Church in Dyersburg, TN. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 29th at Halls Funeral Home officiated by Nate Callender. Ken Webb, Mark Callender, Isaac Webb, Nate Callender, Noel Foster, and Ben Foster will be serving as pallbearers. Jamie Barnes and John Lazure are honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 29th beginning at 12:00 p.m. until the service time at the funeral home.
