Photo of Chancy Earl Prescott

Chancy Earl Prescott

January 15, 1947 – October 01, 2023

Chancy Earl Prescott, 76, of Henning, Tennessee, took one last breath on Earth surrounded by his family and awoke with his first breath on Heaven's front porch with a cold Dr. Pepper on Sunday, October 1, 2023. The family will receive guests during public visitation on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Halls Funeral Home, 109 N Church St. in Halls, Tennessee. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home's chapel with Pastor Ron Johnson of Fulton Baptist Church presiding. Interment will follow in Halls Cemetery. Services are in the care of Halls Funeral Home Inc. Chancy was born on January 15, 1947 in Brownsville, Tennessee to RD and Maryella (Goodman) Prescott. At the age of five, Chancy would meet the mother who raised him, Ester. He grew up on the west end of Tennessee and would graduate from Ripley High School. Following graduation, he enlisted and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. In 1966, he married Paulette Lackey and the two started their family. In 1977, Chancy and his young family relocated to Amarillo, Texas for work. By trade, Chancy was an amazing mechanic. He had a knack for being able to listen to an engine and know exactly what was wrong with it, and then fix it. He could fix just about anything you put in front of him, and did not expect anything in return. Chancy often rose before the sun and did not quit working until it had already gone down. Chancy only knew one thing, and that was dedicated, hard work. He worked himself into the ground daily and rarely complained; a trait he passed onto to his most of his family. Although he and Paulette divorced, they remained close friends and conversed often, even trying to reconcile a couple of times before deciding they were better off as friends. On February 16, 2012, he finally had enough of Amarillo and retired. He packed his tools, clothes, and gun safe into a bumper pull U-Haul trailer and pointed his pickup east towards home. Chancy was a proud man. So proud in fact, he would not ask for help even if he actually needed it. He was admittedly stubborn which he also passed onto his family. Chancy was ornery as could be. Even as his health faded in later years, he still loved a good prank, or picking at you until you wanted to strangle him. Then he would just smile at you and tell you, "I didn't feel a thing". No matter what kind of mood he was in, when you would say, "see ya later" his reply was always, "not if I see you first." Though he did not show outward love like some, you always knew he loved you. Chancy loved a good western, fishing with a cold Dr. Pepper, and could always be found with a jaw full of "the good stuff", which if you did not know, was his Levi Garrett chewing tobacco. Chancy was a force in every room he entered. His only goal was to make each person laugh a little and worry a little less. Chancy is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Patricia, sisters Carolyn, Linda, Sharon, Judy and Nancy, brother Larry, and his first great-grandson Jayden Zane Blassingame. Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter Shelia Brice and husband Wendell, and son Tommy Prescott. He also leaves behind his whole bunch grandchildren Brandon Blassingame and wife Jessica, Brent Blassingame and wife Brandy, Brett Blassingame, Brooklyn Bidwell and husband Tyrell, Bradley Blassingame, and Brendan Blassingame, as well as great-grandchildren Lexi Bidwell, Braylon Blassingame, Nythaniel Blassingame, and Zander Bidwell; sisters Mary Ann and Alice, brother Wayne, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.
