She was a housewife, mother, grandmother and a former employee of Quebecor World-mailing department. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2010 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Vernon Alexander and Pastor Danny Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Dyer County Memorial Gardens in Dyersburg. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The Gunnels family will receive visitors Saturday evening, July 10th from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the funeral home. She leaves her husband, Ronnie Gunnels, daughter Melissa McCaine, three granddaughters, Krystle Leggett, Brittany Butler, Angela McCaine and one great grandson Ethan Leggett. She also leaves her parents, Hubert and Hazel Alexander and brothers Vernon Alexander and wife, Virginia, David Alexander and wife Sherry, Milton Alexander, William Alexander, Mark Alexander and sisters Shelia Walker and husband Danny, Sharon Davidson and husband Claudie. He was a retired supervisor for Frazier Roofing, where he worked for 45 years, a member and deacon of Springhill Baptist Church, 32 degree York Rite Mason, he was a Shriner, a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class, had been involved with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 88 for over 50 years, Scouting Honor's bestowed on him were: the Silver Beaver Award, The Wood Badge Award, he received his 50 year scouting pin, and the order of the Arrow Vigil Scout, he was proud to assist his son and grandson to receive their Eagle Scout Awards and he also played Santa Claus on the rooftops at Wheeler Street for many years.

She was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church. Active in many community organizations, she was the first president of the Dyersburg Jaycettes, the president of two garden clubs, and superintendent of the Women's building at the Dyer County Fair for many years.
