Thelma Brown Taylor passed away on June 22nd, 2011 at home with her son at her side after a successful 2 year, but ultimately devastating battle with cancer. She was born on August 28th, 1924 in Ridgely, Tennessee, grew up there and moved to Dyersburg, Tennessee shortly before the end of World War Two. An avid golfer, she played in almost every woman's tournament in Dyersburg. After raising her family, she moved to Brownsville, Texas in 1970 with her husband, Robert Irvine Taylor, Jr. She was active in the social life of Brownsville, was a member of the "Order of the Serape" and a Board member of the Camille Playhouse. She excelled at Golf and Tennis. In 1997 she moved to Lakeway World of Tennis Resort on Lake Travis outside of Austin, Texas. She moved to The Woodlands, Texas in August of 2005 just in time to experience Hurricane Rita, and in 2008 experienced Hurricane Ike. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Irvine Taylor, Jr, her sisters Martha Brown Craig and Flora Brown Daniel, and her parents Viola and Joseph Brown. She is survived by her son Robert Irvine Taylor, III, three grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews. She had a joy for life. She will be missed. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 27th at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
