Thelma Brown Taylor passed away on June 22nd, 2011 at home with her son at her side after a successful 2 year, but ultimately devastating battle with cancer. She was born on August 28th, 1924 in Ridgely, Tennessee, grew up there and moved to Dyersburg, Tennessee shortly before the end of World War Two. An avid golfer, she played in almost every woman's tournament in Dyersburg. After raising her family, she moved to Brownsville, Texas in 1970 with her husband, Robert Irvine Taylor, Jr. She was active in the social life of Brownsville, was a member of the "Order of the Serape" and a Board member of the Camille Playhouse. She excelled at Golf and Tennis. In 1997 she moved to Lakeway World of Tennis Resort on Lake Travis outside of Austin, Texas. She moved to The Woodlands, Texas in August of 2005 just in time to experience Hurricane Rita, and in 2008 experienced Hurricane Ike. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Irvine Taylor, Jr, her sisters Martha Brown Craig and Flora Brown Daniel, and her parents Viola and Joseph Brown. She is survived by her son Robert Irvine Taylor, III, three grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews. She had a joy for life. She will be missed. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 27th at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was an avid gardner and received numerous awards for his gardening abilities. He was known for his love of the history of the City of Tiptonville where he served several terms as an alderman.. The family will receive visitors at the Tiptonville Church of Christ on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until noon with graveside services and interment immediately following at Antioch Cemetery near Hornbeak. Survivors include a daughter, Donna Gale Bush and husband Hugh Butler of Dyersburg; two sisters, Esther Fowler of Dyersburg and Christine Fowler of Burton, Michigan; two grandchildren Kellie Knisley and husband Shane, and Melissa Bush, all of Dyersburg; and three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Knisley, Emily Knisley, and Jacob Burchfiel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Neccie Maness Joslin; three sisters, Eunice Churchill, Lurline Reed, and Hildred Hepler; and three brothers, Farrell Joslin, Odell Joslin, and Homer Joslin. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. at East Dyersburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Wolfgang officiating. Interment will follow in Dyer County Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Koonce, Blake McAlister, Dylan Taylor, Mike Montgomery, Jackie Keeling, and Gene Young. Bobby Richards will serve as honorary pallbearer.
