Nancy Haygood Ganier

January 31, 1916 – April 12, 2014

Nancy Ganier, 98, of Jackson formerly of Dyersburg, died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at her residence. She was born on January 31, 1916 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to Lillian and James Haygood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Ganier, Sr., her son, Dr. Mitchell Ganier, her sister, Jean Kennedy and her brother James Haygood. While living in Memphis she attended Southwestern at Memphis where her father coached the football team. After her marriage, she lived in Dyersburg for almost seventy years. In Dyersburg, Nancy was an active member of her church's community (First United Methodist Church). She was on the library board, volunteered at the hospital and held many offices at the church. A skilled bridge player, she played in Dyersburg as well as her later home in Jackson, TN. She was a joy to all who knew her. Her bright spirit and positive outlook endeared her to everyone she met. She was active until a few weeks before her death playing games with her great-grandchildren. Her focus was always outward on others. She bore the loss of her husband and son with great courage and dignity. Her life was an example of living with grace through sorrow and joy. She leaves two sons, Dr. Roger Ganier, Jr. and wife Gail of Covington and Jim Ganier and wife Laura of Hickory Withe, TN. Her six grandchildren are Alex Ganier and wife Kellye, Allison Ganier Havercamp and husband John, Jim Ganier and fiance Robin, Matt Ganier and wife Sarah, Shane Ganier and wife Jen and Patrick Ganier and wife Marcie. Additionally she leaves nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday, April 17, 2014 in the Sanctuary at the First United Methodist Church conducted by Dr. Susan Sharpe. Jerry Lee Jackson

August 09, 1939 – April 04, 2014

Jerry Jackson, 74, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. After four months of battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia, he went home to be with the Lord.

Jerry was born on August 9, 1939 in Nashville, TN, to Pauline Jackson Traughber and the late Robert Jackson. Jerry was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Dyersburg who lived his life with honesty and integrity. As a young man, he served as the Tennessee State Young Republican Chairman, a Presidential Electorate in 1972, and State Chairman for the campaigns of Howard Baker in 1966 and Richard Nixon in 1972. He was a three term alderman in Dyersburg and a member of the Jaycee's and Kiwanis. He became Vice President of Colonial Rubber Works and started three other companies in the rubber industry. He was chairman and a life member of Southern Rubber Group in which he was named Man of the Year in 1972. He was a University of Tennessee Trustee for twelve years. He also served on the Dyer County Election Commission and was the West Tennessee Vice Chairman of TAECO (the Tennessee Election Commission).

Hollis Page Knox

December 11, 1924 – March 30, 2014

Hollis Page Knox went to be with the Lord on March 30, 2014 at the age of 89. He was born in Halls, TN on December 11, 1924. He was a member of the Williams Chapel Baptist Church in Halls, TN as well as his parents and grandparents. He graduated from Halls High School in 1943 and entered the US Navy during World War II in October 1943 and was discharged in 1946. He served as a petty officer and ship fitter on the oil tanker USS Tallulah in the Central Pacific, touring the Philippines, Marshall, and Kwajalein Islands. He owned and operated The Shanty Caf next to The Dyersburg Gin Company from 1963-1983 where he served many a hot plate lunch and jumbo size sweet tea with most of the vegetables coming from his own garden. Mr. Knox also retired from Tupperware in 1992. He was an antique tractor enthusiast, rebuilding and repairing various models, especially green ones. He was an avid blue bird watcher and blue bird house builder. He was a fantastic gardener with his petunias living all year round on a mild winter. He went dancing with friends weekly for years. Pastor Jimmy Clay will be officiating the ceremony. Pallbearers are: Matthew Knox, David Barsotti, John Barsotti, Michael Barsotti, Gary Ray and Frankie Blakely. Services will be held Friday, April 4, 2014 at 1pm. at the Halls Funeral Home, 109 N Church St. Halls, TN. She was a faithful wife and homemaker who followed her husband to various areas in Tennessee and Mississippi in his work in bridge construction. She loved her family and grandchildren. Her gentle spirit was given with a smile. She was generous with what she had and loved to listen to God's word spoken and songs of praise of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Robert Clint King, Jr.

January 14, 1926 – March 21, 2014

Robert Clint King, Jr., 88, of Dyersburg, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.

Robert joined the Navy, (during WWII) at the age of 16 years old. While in the Navy, he was stationed on a submarine tender, serving in the South Pacific. He worked at Colonial Rubber Works for over 30 years. While at Colonial, he invented many devices for the manufacture of different rubber items, including the "King Bee". He also farmed for many years. He was the past commander of the local VFW Post 1972. Robert enjoyed fishing, trading stocks and traveling, which sometimes the travel could be a simple, pleasant drive down to the bottoms and the Mississippi River. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Frances Nevita Ann Turner Pilgrim, 74, of Dyersburg, TN, went to be with her Heavenly Father Friday, March 21, 2014 at Jackson Madison County Hospital.She lived her life for the Lord, her family, and friends. She was a member of the West Side Baptist Church. She was devoted to her church, family, and community. She especially enjoyed singing gospel music. Henry Eli Jordan, Jr., 89, of Gates, TN died Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Jordan was active within the agriculture community as a landowner and partner in H.E. Jordan Farm Partnership with his two sons and President of Halls Gin Company. Mr. Jordan was a World War II Veteran serving in the United States Navy. He was a member at First Baptist Church of Maury City for over sixty years and served in several leadership roles within the church including deacon, Music Director, and Men's Bible Class teacher. Mr. Jordan leaves behind his loving wife of 67 years, Martha Juanita Tritt Jordan; four children, Marilyn Jordan Pounds (Miller) of Maury City, TN; Brenda Jordan Puckett (Donnie) of Madison, MS; Alan Jordan (Jennifer) of Gates, TN, and Jay Jordan (Shawn) of Gates, TN. Other survivors include five grandchildren: Arlie Pounds, Brad Pounds, Alexa Ray Jordan, Megan Jordan Uptain (Randy), and Bree Jordan. He also leaves behind three great-grandchildren. Kenneth Wayne Shalap, 71, of Dyersburg, TN, formally of Mount Lookout, WV went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 after a short illness. Born on Dec. 22, 1942, in Elkins, WV, he was the son of the late John and Alwilda Shalap of Summersville, WV. His cherished memories are left to his companion of many years, Carolyn Sue Shaffer of Dyersburg, TN, formally of Mount Lookout, WV and her daughter Dawn Marie Darnell of Dyersburg, TN, brother Walter E. Shalap and wife, Gwen, of Sissonville, WV and their children Christina Hope, Dee Shalap and Bonnie Brost, along with a host of extended family and friends. Kenneth was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Summersville Lodge No. 76 AF-AM. He is best remembered for his decades-owned auto repair business, Shalap's Antiques on RT 19 in Summersville where his passion was the restoration and preservation of antique, vintage muscle cars and street rods. He won many awards over several states for his show cars and his favorite custom 31 Chevy street rod. He never met a stranger, or they weren't one for long. He will be dearly missed. Becky Ozment, 84, loving wife and mother, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at her residence. Every person who met her was greeted with a smile. She was always filled with love and concern for others. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, member of various church organizations, and an active volunteer at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center, Union Mission, and working at the elementary schools with young children. She was formerly involved in Social Services, Human Resources and worked for Dyersburg State Community Service. Becky enjoyed golf, pickleball, bridge, tennis (in her younger years), skiing, gardening and travel. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, March 15, 2014 in the Sanctuary of First United Methodist Church conducted by Dr. Phillip Cook and Dr. David Russell. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Ozment, Albert Fowlkes, Richard Swain, Jerry Lock, John Talley and Bill Revell. He was retired from the maintenance department at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He was a member of Willingham Baptist Church and was an avid fisherman.
