Photo of Travis E. Davison Sr.

Travis E. Davison Sr.

April 26, 1937 – November 15, 2014

Travis E. (Country Boy) Davison, Sr. left this world for a better place at 10:00 AM on November 15, 2014; he was at his residence. He was born to Lucy Junior Davison and William Edgar Davison, April 26, 1937, in the Bradley Community. His father was a well-known farmer in the area. Travis followed in his Dad's footsteps, but then he met a girl from Lenox, Wallis Ann Poole and married her. Soon after he met Jesus and believed Him as his Savior. He then felt the call to ministry and returned to school to prepare. He was attending Carson-Newman Baptist College in Jefferson City, Tennessee, when difficult times came along, and he felt he needed to go to work to feed his wife and two little boys. He worked as a salesman most of his life - he could sell a sail boat in a desert. In 1971 he returned home to west Tennessee where he tried farming, but that didn't work out. He worked part-time at several things. Then the cancer foundation was going to put on Hee Haw as a fund-raiser and someone asked him to be Junior Samples. He tried out and got the part. He was a natural. In 1975 he went on the air at WDSG as Country Boy Travis. He woke up people in this area for fifteen years with his corny country humor, and of course, he had Wally Babe putting in those biscuits every morning. In 1976 he saw the need for a reliable monument dealership in Dyersburg so, he started Davison Monuments. The business is still in operation today with his son Joe and his wife Dianne as owners. His church membership is at Three Oaks Baptist Chapel; he also enjoyed attending TheRightRoad at Trimble where his son Travis, Jr. ministers. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Michael, and a sister, Florence Brashier. He is survived by his wife Wallis Ann and three sons: Travis, Jr. and his wife Deborah; Marcus Stephen; and Joe Wallace and his wife, Dianne. He is also survived by his brother, Harold Davison and sister, Lois Odle. He leaves six grandchildren: Edgar, Emily, Holly, Laura, Rachel, and Ben. He leaves seven great grandchildren: Savannah, Charlotte, Olivia, Ann Elizabeth, Noah, Reece, and Layla. And Sam is on the way! He had a wonderful life and made a lot of people laugh! In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to TheRightRoad, 161 Pierce Street, Trimble, TN 38259. Halls Funeral Home is in charge of the service. Mary Louise King

January 18, 1941 – October 23, 2014

Mary Louise King, 73, died peacefully in Dallas, Texas last Thursday morning, October 23rd at the age of seventy-three surrounded by her four children. Born and raised in Dyersburg, Tennessee, Mary Louise always considered herself a Southerner at heart and often spoke fondly of her time and memories of the "country" and her family home there. Following her graduation from Dyersburg High School in 1959, Mary Louise spent a year at Randolph-Macon Woman's College before transferring to the University of Mississippi where she double majored in Psychology and English, with honors, and enjoyed her time in Oxford as a member of the Chi Omega sorority. She continued her graduate studies over the next several years to become the first woman to graduate from Ole Miss with a Masters and PhD in Psychology. Following graduate school, she married and moved to Dallas where she raised and educated her four children and worked for twenty-five years serving American Veterans as a clinical psychologist for the VA Hospitals in Dallas and Fort Worth. Religion was a very important part of Mary Louise's life - she was one of the founders of the Chapel of the Cross, a new reformed Episcopal church located on Cole Avenue in Dallas. In addition to being a founding member, she also served on the church's Board of Trustees, tended the church garden, and was a long standing and dedicated member of the Alter Guild. Mary Louise valued the gift of education and loved her family, dogs, reading, and crossword puzzles. She could be indomitable when necessary, but was always polite. She was an avid letter writer and would write thank you notes to everyone - she once sent the CEO of Crate and Barrel a hand written note because she really enjoyed a particular coffee mug. Mary Louise is survived by her brother Edward M King, III of Memphis, Tennessee, his wife Joree, their children Joe and Ed and their grandchildren; her children, Thomas Toland of New York City, his wife Kristin and their children Austin and Leighton; Scott Toland of Washington, DC and his husband Charlie Salem; Edward Toland of Kauai, Hawaii and his wife Isabella; and Monica Roberts of Dallas, her husband Josh and their children Liam and Lucy. A graveside memorial service will be held at Fairview Cemetery on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 11AM. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Rector's Discretionary Fund, St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 108 N.
